| Hey, anyone have some reviews/comments about any of the poker rooms in the St. Louis area? I am going to spending a weekend there soon and thought I might hit the ole riverboats if I got any positive feedback on them. Any thoughts are appreciated. | ||

| Only one I know of is on the President Casino on the Landing. I haven't been there in many years, so if you go let us know how it was. | ||

| Ok, here is hokie95's review of President's Landing ("P/L") and Ameristar St. Charles ("ASC"). Keep in mind I went to President's Landing on a Tuesday night, and Ameristar on a Friday night. Amenities: P/L -- None. I hear you can get a $6 comp for the deli. Good luck actually receiving one from Leroy the room manager. Yes Leroy, I am trying to steal $6 from you for a crappy turkey sandwich. Room was cramped (my table was shoved up against the wall so anyone in seats 4-7 couldn't get there without asking people on one side or the other to get and move. Nice. 2 hour wait for the one table, playing 1-4-8 HE. ASC -- Not too bad. Free bottled water and soft drinks, brought to you by Mandy, self-declared "worst waitress ever" because she missed us on a turn. Room was big enough to accommodate the tables they had. On Friday night, the list was 30 deep for a seat at 3-6 HE and 15 deep for 6-12. They could use a bigger room, but I doubt that will happen. Parking: P/L -- Gotta pay for it and I was happily surprised to find the car (a) still there and (b) intact. ASC -- Free garage, well lit, with security. Action: Both games were pretty loose passive. Other than me, I think there was 2 or three players in either game that raised pre-flop at all. Many 7-8 player flops. Rarely a raise. I think I was the only check raise in the game on Friday night at ASC. The Tuesday night game at P/L had slightly more aggressive players, but not much. Dealers: P/L -- Long long time between pushes. They were tired and not very friendly. Lot's of pointing and stern -- it's on you to the player to act, even if that player was clearly contemplating their chips. ASC -- Friendly. One dealer was an idiot. I bet. Called around. Asked me if I wanted to call. Turn. I bet. Called around. Guess what? Yup. Overall: Obviously, I'd make the drive to ASC given the choice. From where I am, P/L is about 10-15 minutes, ASC is about 45-50. That extra hour of roundtrip driving may mean the difference between having the time to play right (for me, 3-4 hours versus 2-3 is a big difference). Clearly, with no time constraints, I pick ASC. Just my $0.02. | ||

| Great info. What we really need are some tournaments at these places. I remember the P/L used to have one but they no longer list it anywere. Just heard the Queen is going to expand to a new "Boat in a Mote" like Harras. Maybe they will add some poker. | ||

| I have not been to the President but I have played at Ameristar a few times and agree with hokie on his opinion of that B&M. The one thing I would add is that Ameristar makes you step out of the poker room to smoke but at the President you can smoke at the poker table. This is enough reason for a non-smoker like me to avoid the President, but might make a smoker want to actually go there. | ||

| When I was there, the players had to step away from the table to smoke. They didn't go far, and it didn't keep the smoke away, but they were not allowed to smoke at the table. I'll add that I have played a few more sessions at Ameristar and my initial read of the LL game is pretty much unchanged. There was one guy raising every hand pre-flop, but he's the only one, and everyone knows who he is. Otherwise, it's pretty passive pre-flop. Also, I met a guy who works at the Harrah's and he said they are going to add poker soon. No word on how reliable that is. But, that's what I heard. -Hokie95 | ||

| I agree with this review. I live 10 minutes from the AMC so thats the obvious choice for me. As far as the players go from my experiences there, definitely loose passive on general with one or two tight players, the kind of group you probably shouldn't sandbag. One experience at a table, a kid a little younger than me(I'm 24) was aggressive but he'd get called down preflop by everyone which stopped that stuff. Flop would come and ALL 6 checked it unless someone had something(pointless to try to bluff the pot), which happened again at the turn with the nut hand betting at the river with everyone calling. I won a few pots over the course of a few hours to come out ahead but stopped after aces got cracked by 4 7 off suit (I always leave any kind of table when I lose a fair amount of money to Blackjack or a bad beat or anything). | ||

| I haven't been there in over a year, but there is or at least was a poker room at the Landing where Rick is talking about. It is a small room with only 2-4 games going, one of which is 7 stud (1-5). There were never any games larger than 3-6 or 4-8 (I can't remember which) going while I was there. They said a larger game sometimes got going on the weekends. All in all, nice people but pretty disappointing as far as poker rooms go. Someone mentioned most of the action had moved out of town to one of the suburbian casinos, possibly St. Charles? Will | ||
