Was I wrong to call this from BB?, Boftx, 2. Oct 2003 15:40

In the hand history below I feel I played the hand after the flop as well as could be asked for. However, it could be said I should not have called from BB to start with. My feeling was that the implied odds were there to make the call in hopes of getting a playable flop as I did. Comments?

I think your call was right. It was just one more small bet from the blind. You had a drawing hand with multiple callers in the pot and no real reason to think the MP player acting behind you might reraise. Good call, I think.

I also think you played the hand well. I might have considered 3-betting the flop, though, just to make sure you got maximum $$ out. With an open-end straight flush draw, you're a favored at this point--I believe a 54% chance you'll make either a straight or a flush by the river. I would have wanted as much money as possible in the pot at this point! Of course, it turns out that it didn't matter, because your two opponents capped the betting anyway...

Also, if you had acted more aggressively on the flop, you might have been able to make a play for a pot on the turn, if your missed and your opponents held less than super-strong hands and had the ability to lay them down (though again, this woudn't have worked here, given that one opponent held top set. No way he'd lay that down!).

All in all, nice hand.

Thank you for confirming my read. That was my thought exactly when I saw the flop, "Oh boy! I'm a better than even favorite to take this". :-) I held off the aggression simply because I felt at least one other player would be betting the hand for me after seeing the A out there given the pre-flop action.
