| After you win w/o showing your hole cards is it better to: A. Make the player think you had the nuts, or B. Make him think you were bluffing I know it depends on the situation, but in general... Thanks, John | ||

| Hi. It is better to make them think you will never give them any information unless they call. Best, BarryT | ||

| Barry, So when someone asks you, "didja have it" you say nada? Not yes or no? I realize most of the time, you should just keep quiet, but there are times when you can pull someone in, or scare someone off, depending on your present motivation (and strategy) - sorry for the run-on sentence. | ||

| John, while I think there are times when you can, and should, use a situation like this as a tool for future benefit, most of the time the only response I give is a puzzled look like I don't understand what he is saying, or I may say something like, "I forget," when asked if I had it or what I had. Now, THERE's a run-on sentence for ya! ;) -Moz "The Queen is dead, boys, and it's so lonely on a limb." | ||

| If I'm playing 10-20 and someone asks me that question, I'll say "I had twenty dollars." An alternative approach is to always say you had a set. | ||

| When asked, I prefer to say something like "good laydown" or tell them "you did the right thing." No matter what hand you had, both of those comments will be truthful, for one of you. Or for the "didja have it?" Always say yes, since you had something that was good enough to win with. Just don't show your cards, and they'll never know for sure. Eli on 1. It's a straightfoward statement, but it says so much more than that imo, when you really think about it. 4P- | ||

| John in general I think it is TERRIBLE poker to show your opponents your hand when you don't need to. Some opponents may have observed something in the way that you played your hand....if you show them what you held then you have delivered to them the "final piece of the puzzle" for nothing!!!!! That is a lot to give up for free to your opponents!!!! I do show my hand for nothing at the table but I do it in select situations........either to make a weaker player feel more comfortable by creating a more friendly atmosphere or my personal favorite........to try to set a more experienced player, who I know is emotionally weak, on tilt by showing a bluff. Both of these situations are rare but are potentially profitable. Just a thought. GRANT PITTMAN. | ||

| I usually say something along the line of, "I was betting, wasn't I?". Only one person has ever called me on that not meaning a thing. The rest of the time the other player will take it to mean what they want it to, which is what I intended in the first place by not showing hole cards. Sometimes to keep things friendly when playing at home, I will turn over one of the cards sometimes both, uncalled, but this is with my brother and his roommate, playing mostly for pride and fun. | ||

| In my regular friendly home games, I like to play with everyones heads. I rarely show my cards, but if they ask, I almost always say I had it. One move I like is showing just one of my cards. For example: If after the flop I win a pot by no one calling on a board of 7 Q A, and I raise significantly with my A7. Id show just my seven. And leave them thinking about my other card. Its funny cause one of them would have a Q, and they think they would of won.!! LOL | ||

| If you're big on bluffing, I'd say I had it. If I was a tighter player, I'd try and make him think I was bluffing, so he calls my nut flush next time. Thats just me though, and I might be a 19 year old typing this from a computer in my mothers basement. Or maybe I'm a professional card shark writing this from a penthouse suit in the Borgata. | ||

| I very very rarely show cards - the situation must be perfect and it's less than 1% of the time. Normally, when asked, I add just a touch of aristocratic aire to my voice (for the sake of humor) and state: "Due to the deceptive nature of the game, I'm afraid that I cannot divulge that information at this time." | ||

| I never ever show my hole cards...IMO You dont want anyone picking up on your strategy at all. If they ask me, "Did you have it?", etc. Usually I just tell them, "Hey, you have to pay to see." -DD | ||

| Everytime I'm asked, I always say the same thing..."2-7.....always 2-7". | ||
