My buddy was playing PartyPoker online in the Play money section and he said there was a guy there that won ever hand he showed down. never once made a losing call. Then after winning a few million in chips this other guy joins the chat and starts saying, "Why don't you tell them how you see everyone cards?" The cheater got rattled and left the table with his winnings.

My question is, could this/does this happen at live money tables?

If he could see everyones cards, he wouldn't be at a play money table. Rumor has it that there's some piece of software on the black market that takes screen captures of all the client PCs connected to a server site. It's supposed to be available for like $40K. I doubt it. Everyone would have to be playing on a T1 or better connection, without firewalls for such a program to be practical. Otherwise it could take too long to get and use the information given the available time one has to take action on their hand.

A) Party is regulated by the Canadian government.

B) Military grade encryption software is free these days, IE: PGP

C) Party routinely has over 15,000 people online at once... think of the money at stake here.

Now figure the odds of party not using serious encryption to ensure that even if you could intercept the packets, it would take the CIA 6 months to hack the code and figure it out?

Tip: The longer a coded message, the faster you can break the encryption because the repeating letter patterns give you clues. 4s and Qd aren't long enough to give much of a clue.

Add the fact that any common sense approach would include changing encryption keys every turn and then re-encrypting every message a second time with date-time randoms and there is no chance that anyone hacking it could break the codes and see what you have within three days of your having it... and forget seeing it in time to decide what to do in that hand.

NOTE: Any code can be broken but it takes TIME. Time is something hackers don't have if the code shifts every time cards are dealt. Think about it.

Again, Party routinely has over 15,000 people playing at any given time... there is WAY too much money at stake for them to not take every precaution. Especially with the Canadian Government watching thier every move.

With BILLIONS at stake, no licensed and regulated card house can take ANY chances with your money. Yes, unlicensed and unregulated ones have caused problems, particularly ones in the old Soviet states or in Central America... and this is why business is positively booming for those online card houses that are government regulated legitimately.

This guy won ever single hand he played to the end. he knew exactly what people were holding. I was so upset I uninstalled PartyPoker and have not touched it since. PartyPoker has to deny this could actually happen or it would be out of business plain and simple.

>I was so upset I uninstalled PartyPoker and have not touched it since. PartyPoker

This "there are hackers and cheats online" paranoia is just plain soft.

This is not complicated.

1) If you lose in live games AND online, then no hackers or cheaters were necessary for you to lose. End of discussion.

2) Do you win live and also win online? If yes, then why would you uninstall PartyPoker if you are winning because there MIGHT be cheats? This is the equivalent of refusing to pick up the $50 bill on the sidewalk because you think some thief came by, picked up the $100 that was there, and left you with a lousy $50. If you find that walking down PlanetPoker Street, they leave $100 bills instead of $50s (i.e., you win more per hour there), then play there. If not, then quit cutting off your nose to spite your face.

3) If you win live and lose online, then either A) you haven't played enough live or online to determine if you're REALLY a winner in one or both of those venues, or B) you play worse online.

This topic is old and tired.
