Showing cards to an observer, Boftx, 1. Oct 2003 14:42

Is it permissible to peek at your cards in such a way that an observer sitting in back of you can also see them in order that the observer may follow the play of the hand more fully? Assume that no conversation takes place between you and the observer while your hand is in play and you are unable to see the observer without turning around.

Thanks.

Yes. In fact if you can get an experienced player to monitor your play for awhile, this is one of the best ways to improve. Such a "meter reader" can then give you some feedback later on when you pay for dinner, on areas where you may need improvement.

...just be sure the observer isn't your girlfriend who will yell out "OH MY GOD! THAT'S GREAT!" when you show her Pocket Aces. I speak from experience....yeah, I didn't win much that hand.
