Pot Odds and Hi/Lo games, JohnT, 1. Oct 2003 11:38

I participate in a regular dealer choice home game where all games are hi/lo splits.

My questions is, when figuring drawing odds vs pot odds, do you need to divide what the pot is offering by 2 since you're only playing for half the pot. Intuition tells me yes but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks

John you are on the right track here but you haven't told us enough about your game to answer your question properly. Is your hilo game an 8 or better or no qualifier game? This makes a big difference of course when calculating your pot odds in any situation. With a no qualifier you will count the pot and divide by 2 when you are playing a hand that has no REAL low potential (why would one ever play such a hand I wonder???????) In an 8 or better game you will have to consider the likelihood that a low hand will get there and base your pot odd calculations in each situation. You are correct in saying that a lot of the time you will be sharing the pot with a low hand so your true pot odds will be based on less than what the pot holds. Reading the situations and your opponents hands correctly in these spots is where strong hilo players leave there opponents in the dust. Good luck!!! GRANT PITTMAN
