If you are in late position and are holding pocket 3s, 4s or 5s or something like that and you decide to stay in and miss your set you have lost and need to fold.

At what point are there enough people calling that the pot odds work in your favor to pay the one small bet to see the flop before folding?

Or does it ever since more people means more people drawing against you too?

I would have folded these but I was just wondering if I was missing anything by getting out

Try to calculate the money in the pot vs the money you should put in. Example, if there is $50 in the pot and you have to call $10 you're getting like 5 to 1... Before the flop, you are like 8 to 1 underdog to make your set ,so you would need the pot to lay a little over that. In a 10-20 game, you'd need almost 8 or 9 people to call ...

ok with 8 or 9 people in that opens up all sorts of weird draws for everyone too... so some of the time, even if you hit your trip, chances are you still might not win

Sounds like it is pretty much never worth it.

Not sure I entirely agree with this. You're right that the immediate pot odds rarely justify a call, but your implied odds may make it worthwhile. That's because if you do hit a set, it will be very well camoflaged and you can be pretty sure you'll get action throughout the hand.

Let's consider a hypothetical example. You're in LP and hold 55. There are 5 limpers to you (which isn't enough to justify a call based on immediate pot odds), but you call anyway. The flop comes J52. Anyone holding a jack with a good kicker (and chances are someone has a jack) will think they've got the best hand. They'll not only bet into you--they'll probably call if you raise when prices go up on the turn. So you stand to take down a good sized pot!

Because of the implied odds of hitting a set, I'll limp with 4-5 callers IF I'm in LP AND and I have no reason to suspect that a raise is coming behind me.

Good point. For the extra small bet you can see the flop which may lead to you being able to cap out the turn and or the river potentially bringing in a monster pot... if not it was only one small bet just don't keep fishing for the triple on the turn and the river if the flop misses
