| Ok, I just won 2 $10 single table tourney's in a row, tried $30 and hit a brick wall... the levelof play quadrupled... went back to $10 and took the win again. Is $30 really so much a tougher game than $10 that someone who can consistantly place 3rd or better, and often win, in $10 has a tough time even getting 3rd in $30? Or did I just hit a tough table? | You just hit a tough table, and different cards!! If you play the $10's long enough, you'll run into a $30 crowd. If it ain't broke......... on 30. | And it seems the $10 SnG at Party is tighening up a bit, 5 of the last 7 games I've played have made it to the 2nd level without anyone busting out :-) | ||

| Ok, this is NOT meant to be any sort of boast or brag nonsense. It's an attempt to figure out if I should try to move to the $30 single table tourneys. After all, how could I be bragging when I know that a $100 tourney player could probably roast me in 20 hands or less! All they'd need to know is should they use terriyaki sauce on me or not? On a $10 buy in, single table tourney: If, and this is a big if, I can manage to not be one of the first 4 people blown off the table, then I seem to have about a 50/50 shot of winning the table. I seem to really hit my stride when the game is 3-6 handed and heads up is more parry, dodge and thrust like a swordfight than poker... and I seem to be able to do better than just hold my own in heads up but I wouldn't claim to be really good at it. Side note... I've won the last 3 $10 single table tourneys I entered, 2 yesterday and one this morning. So... does this sound like someone who should move up to $30 singles or someone who should stay at $10 and be happy with positive cash flow, even if it's not that big of a flow? My real goal is to get good enough to win 2 $30 single table tourneys per day and take enough thirds and seconds to cover the entry fees for those times when I get blown right out of my seat early on, which will always happen to everyone now and then. Then again, maybe I'm over analyzing and being too paranoid... probably should just pay the $30 and get in the dam*ed game! :c) NCD | ||

| I am in the same boat with you, doing well in $10 and thinking of going $30. My limited experience with $30, 5 games, is that they are no different than $10. You run into a tough table every now and then but they are just as wild as $10. Of the 5 I have played, 4 had someone drop in Level I. By Level III we were at 6-7 players. I came in 2nd in two games and 4th in the other three. And all 4th place finishes I can see my mistakes. I think I am going to stick with the $30 and see where I get. I have decided that if I play a $30 I will only pay attention to the game, no TV or music in the back ground. | ||

| The main differences I have seen is that you will not get the $30 to fall for the traps as easily as the $10 crowd. An example is flopping a top set vs two pair. In the $10 game, if you check, get a good size bet from someone, go all-in over the top, you will get a call 95% of the time. In the $30 game, they seem to only call about 60% of the time. I think the $30 games can be beaten easily, but you have to change your game up a little. Give the $30 people slightly more credit. On a similar note, I can't seem to place in the $5 tourneys with all the crap shoot pre flop all ins. Ever time I go all in with AA, or KK over other bets, I seem to get called by 2-4 people and getting outdrawn Guinnessman | ||

| I'm not yet ready for the jump, but am thinking in the same direction as you NCD. I entered a few 30s before I really knew what I was doing and won one. Before my record keeping, so I don't know if it was total luck or a weak table. I played loose and aggressive back then, though. I've also read here that 30s can be populated by a bunch of overconfident yahoos like I once was, who think $10 SNGs are beneath them. My thinking now is to use 10s to build bankroll and experience enough to seriously test the 30 waters. Another thing to do is just observe play on some of the higher tables. Doesn't cost and you can at least pick up differences in betting patterns, starting hands, etc. But what about 20s? Anyone tried them out? 10s seem to sometimes be a testing ground for upandcomers. I've also noticed 10s trending toward tight, but weak. Some guts early, but as the blinds increase, there is a lot of weakness, especially if you show a few good hands or make a few big calls. I suggest you go for it NCD (and get off my $10 tables). ;^) | ||

| At party the jump is straight from 10 to 30, I've never seen a 20 available to play. I had $240 in my account yesterday at 5:00 and got hammered badly last night for around $100 loss, $70 of it was tourney entry fees where I didnt' place and the other 30 was from a wild cash NL table. I even had a boat shunk by a bigger boat in a cash game, just couldn't do anything right late on Tues night. I'm concerned but not whining... after all, I only started with an $80 deposit and have shelled out almost $300 in tournament entries and still have over $40 cash to the good in my very first week playing online (I played at Salt River in AZ for a living for a short time when 101 was still in the tent... any of that old crowd here? How are Mary and Reva doing? (grin)). NCD | ||
