First B&M Play -- Long, hokie95, 30. Sep 2003 10:17 | ||

| Well, I just got back from my vacation, during which I sat in my first B&M poker play. (I play on UB most evenings.) So, how'd I do? Sat 3-6 for about 3.5 hours, ended the night up $51. Won 2 pots. I am trying to figure out if I played too tight, or if I simply got bad starting hands all night. The table was very loose passive. Average 5-7 people playing the flop for $3. If and when someone would raise, most would call. Very little raising, lots of calling, after the flop and later. The only hands that were immediately playable were the three times I was dealt pocket 7's, a QJs, and a Q-10s on the button. I saw the flop with A-10 offsuit and a few like hands, but had to dump them when the flop missed me by a mile. The 7's always faced 2 overcards, so those went the wayside as well. This leaves QJs and Q-10s. The QJs saw a flop of 7, 8, 9 rainbow. It is checked around. Turn is a 10. One bet, fold, fold, fold, raise. I make it 18 to go. Raised. Call. Call. River is a blank. Check check I bet call call. I win my first $100 pot with the nuts. The Q-10s gets me a flush on the river that holds up, after I run a free card play after the flop. (I'd read about it, was amazed at the stunned looks on everyone's face when I checked the turn.) So, at a table like this, should I have been playing hands like 8-10s from late position, or worse? Or did I do right by playing tight and aggressive when I had a hand? I *think* I had crappy cards all night and got in when I had the best of it. Thoughts? Also, I left because there were a few guys who knew each other and they were telling the one left in the hand what they had folded. The dealer did nothing about it. Very frustrated by that. | ||

| well done. but i dont think 3 hours means a ton. play a good chunk on different times before starting to get into how you played in real detail. (meaning dont draw to many conclusions about how good/bad you played, or change things based on 3 hours of play) anywho, the table was looose passive, and gotta love that. for your first time at 3-6 you are lucky it wasnt loose aggressive my man. you wouldnt have been up 50 probably, but who knows, you were playing fairly tight. i cant believe that about the annoucing of folded hands. anytime something bad is happening like that, you need to get a floor manager, pronto. dealers dont care sometimes because of tipping by drunk inexperienced player, or theyre just bad dealers. always take action when its that severe. some people think its harmless, but its not at all. anyway you played very well, i would have played just like you did pretty much and i think you could loosen up a bit because they were so passive. on 30. | It's hard to quantify anything from 3 hours of play. If you made $51 at a $3/$6 table that's pretty good results. | ||

| was 3/6 the minimum limit at that casino? what limits do you play online for? How did the 2 compare. I ask because I haven't played a lot in the casino but I have played a bunch at UB and when I did play at the casino the minimum table (3/6) seemed a lot looser than UB's $0.25/$0.50 games or even their $0.01/$0.02 games. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same. Are minimum tables a similar difficulty no matter where you go? Even if one place the minimum is $0.01 and the other it's $3.00? Actually the UB $0.01 seemed harder that the casino $3/$6... I'm thinking it's probably because it is a very different crowd at these 2 places. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same. | ||

| The 3-6 was the lowest limit at the Mozman's home roost. I play either the $2 buy-in NL or at the 0.25-0.50 through $1-2 tables at UB. The 0.25-0.50 tables on UB are about a billion times tougher than this was, IMO. There were a couple decent players (as evidenced by turning up good cards and not being in every hand) but there were a lot of comments to the effect of "never know what you'll have till the flop." Which, of course, means that many many people were playing past the flop only if they had a decent hand. (My read on that was: No Bluffing.) | ||
