One way to track improvement is with your bankroll. If it is getting larger over time you are doing something right often enough but are you actually improving or just playing at a low enough level to beat your opponents. How leaky is your game? Are you fixing those leaks? As a new player, how do you know?

How can you track improvement? I moved from play money to micro low limits (.02/04) after some great advise on this forum and reading the recommended books. At this low level I won and then moved up to .05/.10. Initially I won but then hit a losing streak. I think I identified some of the leaks in my game and began winning again. Did I improve or did my luck improve?

During the dry spell I could not get any improvement on the flop or at least that's what it seemed and pressed some poor hands. During my current win streak I am getting better cards.

I keep track of every hand I am dealt. If I did not reach the showdown, I record when I folded. I know how many flops I see and how many showdowns I win and lose. How do you use this data or can you?

I see about 25% flops, 20% not counting blinds. I see a lot of loose/passive tables where you can see free cards in BB. I am winning around 35% of showdowns ((which seems low) and win an additional 2 showdowns without showing my cards in a 2 hour session.

Any thoughts on tracking improvement?
