Pre-flop lunatics in NL, NCD, 29. Sep 2003 20:15 | ||

| I'm playing the $25 buy-in NL games online and see a lot of pre-flop raises in the $3-$5 range. In limit, I'd just play tight openers and punish the fools but in NL this can slam your chips down to $10 if 3 flops don't go your way and then you have nothing to really work with if you hit the 4th flop. What's a good way to adjust for this when you see it almost every hand and can't get a look at the flop for less than $4 even though the big blind is only 50 cents? NCD | ||

| only suggestion i can make is play tight, forget about seeing flops unless you have a top 15 hand, in the end its productive, just depends on if you playing to entertain yourself or to win cash. | ||

| WELL, THE HORRIBLE CONCEPT OF THE "MAXIMUM BUY IN" PRETTY MUCH RUINS THE NO LIMIT GAMES. CERTAINLY ON PARTY, WHERE THE MAX IS ONLY A MERE FIFTY TIMES THE SIZE OF THE BIG BLIND. I WOULD SUGGEST POKER STARS OR MY NEW FAVORITE ULTIMATE BET. I HAVE BEEN ASSURED BY ROY COOKE, THAT PLANET POKER IS GOING TO UNVEIL THEIR NEW SOFTWARE, AND I'M VERY CONFIDENT THAT WHEN THEY DO, THIS WILL BE A GREAT SITE. CERTAINLY THE ONE YOU CAN TRUST THE MOST. WITH A MAX BUY, OF ONLY FIFTY TIMES THE BIG BLIND, YOU CANNOT PLAY TIGHT ENOUGH, TO JUST WAIT FOR A MONSTER, AND THEN PUNISH THE HELL OUT OF THE CRAZED PRE FLOP RAISER. WITH A 50 DOLLAR MAX, FIFTY CENT BLIND, YOU HAVE A LOT MORE WORKING FOR YOU. AND, WHEN YOU CATCH SOME GOOBER WITH A HAND THAT YOU TOTALLY DOMINATE, YOU GET A BIG PAY OFF. BUT, IF YOU INSIST ON PLAYING THE 25 MAX FIFTY CENT BLIND, THEN I WOULD SUGGEST THIS: IF YOU HAVE WHAT RATES TO BE THE BEST HAND, NEVER CALL EITHER GO ALL IN, OR FOLD IT'S THAT SIMPLE. A CRAZED RAISER, WILL PROBABLY PUT IN THE REST OF THEIR CHIPS, ONCE THEY HAVE PUT IN FOUR OR FIVE. AS YOU CAN SEE, YOU CANNOT JUST KEEP PUTTING IN FIVE BUCKS, ONLY TO HAVE A BOGUS FLOP. SO, IF YOU THINK YOUR AQs is the best hand, MAKE THAT SUCKER PAY!!!!!! REMEMBER, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT INTERNET NO LIMIT THIS IS NOT REAL NO LIMIT. I WOULD SUGGEST LIMITING YOUR ALL INS, WITH THE FOLLOWING HANDS: AA KK QQ JJ AK AKs AQs FOR FIVE DOLLARS, I WOULDN'T CALL WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN MAYBE 10 10 99 OR POSSIBLE KQs | ||

| Correct me if im wrong but on some sights your allowed to reload back to the maximum amount if you go down, but i know its not like this on party which can get VERY annoying. I agree with adam, hes play has a positive EV in such a game. | ||

| Actually, you are allowed to reload at any given time on Party Poker. Just right-click on the dealers chip tray, and press 'add more chips'. If you lose 20-50% of the max buy-in, I strongly reccomend you do this rather than waiting for your que to make your move, only to find you can't even take out an average stack in the process. | ||

| I play on party as NCD__. I don't know if you can't refill before you're busted but I know you can after you bust if you want to. I did ok and won a couple small single table tourneys earlier today and it got me to thinking. What if I simply decided what starters I should be using for the situation (limit, NL, blind, cash, tourney or shorthanded) and stuck to my guns? Don't raise, but call any raise thrown at me pre-flop if I have my starters because the flop can do anything, as we all know. Then decide what do do after I see the flop. I only tried it for about half an hour but it worked perfectly. I didn't sweat the raises and just called, looked at the flop and decided from there. I abandoned a couple hands when the flop didn't help them and really crushed some overconfident AA and QQ hands who had raised to $3 pre-flop, but the flop had come my way instead of theirs. I turned $25 into $60 and then said good night to the table... in under 40 minutes. Maybe that's the key... if the hand is good enough to see the flop then look at the flop at whatever cost... and if it's not a good starter then dump it without investing a dime. Pre-flop raises be damned. I'll have to see how it goes tomorrow. NCD "When you're up, remember the old song 'Go on, take the money and run.... whoo-hoo-hooo!' " | ||
