With WPT on t.v. the amount of poker playing in college has increased exponentially.

I went 4 years of college looking for people to play with, and never did.... now I can play virtually every day if I wanted with new players.

Most of the games being played are cash NL games, and a few NL tournament players. Limit play isnt played and the few times I have gotten people to play limit, they lose rather quickly and say "oh I prefer no Limit"

The players I'm playing against, I am sure I am much better than, however I have the feeling that I am not playing close to optimally against them.

My main problem is playing in early positionMost all players play the same..... in a no limit game, no matter how bad of odds I give people for playing drawing hands, they will call them. I've always figured if I KNOW they are on a draw and I overbet the pot I can take it with my top pair, but it won't work.

The same goes for people who just hit any pair on the board, whether low pair or any pocketpair even if there are numerous overcards.

The question is, how should I play this in early position? If the pot is 3 dollars, and I bet the pot or higher in early position, and I get a caller that 90% of the time is on a draw and I have them beat I am not a fan of betting the pot again on the turn because that style is likely to get broke when players hit 2 pair or get a monster.

I also notice in these games their standard preflop raises are double the blinds, whereas I like more a 3-4 times the blinds preflop raise with a solid had. However, I will get called down with any ace, and a lot of weak hands. The problem with this is that when the pot gets large, bluffs rarely work. Everyone in these games assumes people are on bluffs more often than they actually are, especially if I bet large after the flop when preflop raising.

So the question comes.... In a game where bluffs rarely work, and people won't lay down draws... how should you play NL, especially in early position. I'm considering just playing smallball, keeping preflop raises low and simply outplaying people. I'm finding by making the pots larger when I have superior holdings, I'm allowing more luck to come a factor in my winning, by potentially losing bigger pots, whereas if all the pots were smaller I think I could be quite profitable by saving a few small bets here and there not calling bad draws, and getting an extra few bets by having them make bad calls.

Thoughts?

Just value bet the bejesus out of them. If they're going to call huge bets with very little hand, you should be in heaven. If you need to bluff, do it once early and then show everyone. Then let them pay you off the rest of the night. This is probably my favorite type of game to play because you can make so much on your good hands. Enjoy the EV paradise while you still can.

On another note, what have you been doing to find so many games? I've found a few here and there, but I really only get a live game around school once or twice a week. I wish it were more, cause most of the players are really bad.
