Go to UNLV. Major in casino management, Get A job in the casino industry. Study and play poker on the side . Dont neglect your classes. After you graduate and get a nice job in the casino industry, continue to learn poker. If you do this well , in 10 years you will be a decent ,profitable player. this town is full of people who think they can play and can't, think they know how to bet sports, 90% of them are broke and live from week to week. An exaggerated example of this is the poker genius Stu Ungar, who won millions playing poker and lost millions betting sports, and abused drugs until he died at th lofty age of 40 -something.

YOu're Welcome

You should go to one of the fine colleges in the state of CA. There are so many crazy players, you can find really loose action even at 20-40 sometimes. If you can play well and have the bankroll, CA is the place.

I think any city that offers a decent sized poker room close to a rich neighborhood would work. There's lots of rich people that think nothing of going out for a evening out and blowing $1000 on blackjack, craps, slots or poker (and they don't really see a difference between any of these games). It's just fun for them. Go figure...

I LOVE it when those Pai Gow and Blackjack players venture over to the poker tables. :) They are conditioned not to care that they are taking the worst of it, and will pay off your monster hands with some strange holdings.

I don't know what kind of money you are looking to make, but I don't think you need a casino near you to find poker games. I play a few games a week at different locations on my campus, as long as you look around for the games you are sure to find them. Making a few hundred in a week isn't too rare...I don't do it that often, but a lot of people like to play games where one person takes all.

I was looking more in the way of tournaments rather than cash games because I enjoy and am much better at tournaments to cash games.

I would recommend only playing with cash that you can afford to lose. College life can be very costly and you don't want to forgo buying a text book or something because you took a bad beat in a game.

If it means skipping a night out with the guys bar hoping, then go ahead. It's easy to drop $20-100 at a bar on a weekend.

Also, make sure you doing miss class or assignments because you were out late playing poker.

Playing poker with friends is a good way to alientate them. Taking money from people you know on a regular basis is never a good thing if you value the friendship. I would advise playing online tourneys. Buy-ins are cheap online these days with some huge payoffs. Don't get to cocky and expect to pay for college with poker winnings. You don't want to have to sit out a semester because you are getting cold cards. Hit the books then the casinos.

my 2 cents...

Rebuttal...they have a perfectly fair shot at taking your money home, and they fully intend to, and don't seem to have a problem with it.

Now, being a bookie for your friends, or dealing blackjack on a regular basis, takes moxie.

I am going to college now, and I pay for is fully with my poker playing. I play a lot online, and there are tons of games around school. You can get tons of money from the games around campus because most of the players you will come across are major fish. I am also luck to have 5 casino within 45 minutes of my house, so I can get plenty of action there. But with the online poker play, like there is today, as long as you are a good player, you can make a living playing poker anywhere. Also, play in a lot of tournaments. They always bring in a lot of money for me.
