| Hi. Party Poker runs a series of three tournaments. In each tournament, you start with a minimum of 1000 chips. You can win bonus chips (up to 6000) and allocate them as you would like across the three tournanemts, with a maximum of 2000 bonus chips per day. If you were to have 2100 bonus chips, how should you allocate them to maximize your chances to place very high in at least one tournament. 700, 700, 700? 2000, 100, 0? Soemthing else? BarryT | ||

Chips are power and starting with as many as possible gives you the most flexibility. Gary F. | ||

| Hi. I suspect that is the answer, but I am not really sure. It could be the giving myslef what might be an abvove average starting stack in each tournament gives me the best chace to finish high in at least one. If I put all my chips in one basket, as it were, and get unlucky here, I will be in a tougher spot in the other two. But I probably will pile all the chips I can on one day and hope for the best. Thnaks. BarryT Other opinions very welcome. | ||

| Hmmm i would say it is a close call between 2000 + 100 and 700 x 3. If you percieve yourself to be one of the better players ( which i presume you are ! ) i would say that the 700 x 3 could be the right thing to do as you give yourself a chance in all 3. I would probably say that starting with T1000 in these tournaments puts you in trouble right way and that as Mr Slansky explains ' chips change value ' and that as each chip you lose ( and in effect you will have lost 700 in 2 tournaments if you go for all your eggs in one basket ) is worth more than ones you could have gained by having 3000 in one. Also i would say that not everyone will start with full 3000 and i seem to remember from when i played in one of these the average was about 2100 so starting off with 1700 you will not be hugely disadvantaged. I am sure there is a mathmatical way of explaining the best thing to do but my gut instinct tells me to spread the chips over the 3. Yours guessing Chasepoker | ||

| I think I agree with Chase, he sold me. If you believe Sklanksy's thoughts on tournament chip value, there really isn't any other option, as far as highest EV. I need to think about it more though. Lee | ||

| Barry T, I think it would work to your favor to closely examine the structure of the tourneys you are playing. Having a really deep chip stack ( and or being up against really deep chip stacks )can present strange conflicts during the early and middle rounds of the tourney. (Didnt we talk with Russ Roesenblum about this during the WPT championship table filming last year ?) Also you might want to examine how many other player have bonus chips added on and how many on ave are held and how many players have the maximum. I have a feeling that most player will put in the maximum they have and others , who have already jammed theirs in a previous tourney, will have the minimum. In light of this I wouldn't put them all into the first tourney. This would be more of a fact finding mission. You may however want to put in some say 10%. I suggest As you gain experience with these types of tourneys and the chip stacks and players you might face, put in more chips. Something like 10% 30% 60%. Of course as you gain information that might change. But I feel that this could be a fair starting point. timmer | ||

| I would divide them evenly over the three tournaments (in agreement with chasepoker's/Sklansky's reasoning) Mark | ||

| 700 * 3. Starting a tournament with 1000 when par is 2100 is just sick and I wouldn't play it on principle, lol. Starting a tournament with 3000 vs. 2100 par is a good but not great help. If you do an asymmetrical split, those extra 900 chips don't help you nearly as much as the -1100 in chips hurts you. You are a good player, likely better than 60% to double up anyway, so starting with 1700 vs 2100 par isn't such a big deal. Mathwise, this one is a Sklansky. I would be shocked if 2000-100-0 was the way to go. Initially it looked to me like putting all your eggs in one basket is the right strategy. Then I read the other posts in this thread and they make a lot of sense to me. | ||
