Idea for next UPF Tourney, asnyder, 26. Sep 2003 12:08

If possible - UPF Bounty Tourney. For example, $20 buy-in with $15-$17 going to the prize pool and the remaining $3-$5 as bounties. You get the bounty $ for everyone you knock out. Last tourney's winner (Jav) or the Top 5 finishers could have special bounties ($10-$15 each).

Comments/Suggestions??

Not sure if UB is able to do this sort of thing. Anyone know?

They have bounties on Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth in their respective tournaments that you qualify for by playing enough time at their tables. Not sure if they can do it for a private tournament though.

I'm willing to find out (or at least try to). Aside from the logistics what do you think about the format (assuming it's feasible by UB)?

It will be a lot easier, logistically, if you can find a site where the set up already exists, and we just input 'Jav' as the target. This prevents any long discussion/debate as to how to do it.

If you must have more bounties than that, I suggest Wren and Beigs.......but if they have the standard set-up (place card per kill), that would be ideal.

Maybe Mike or Roy could comment on the feasability of doing this at Planet. If not, I do know of a site that has different forms of bounty tournaments (Dynamite) but I'm not sure if new players, unfamiliar with the site, would be comfortable depositing there.

I wonder what Jav thinks about his chances of winning again if everyone is out to get him? How many flush draws, straight draws, second pair looking to hit his kicker etc etc can someone survive :)

Hmmm. I guess it would depend on how big the bounty is. I have played live tournaments with bounties, and I have never won one. Mostly because I have never played differently trying to eliminate someone with a bounty on them. (Although I have to admit potentially winning the hat must have influenced my decision to call Wren's all-in bet in the last tourney).

But I would have to say that my chances of winning any UPF tourney is probably not that high. I think the percentage of quality players in that tournament just makes it really hard to have consistent results. I was down to about 600 chips at one point, and if I hadn't won an A,K race over a pair of Jacks I could have just as easily came in 15th instead of 1st!

But like Cloutier says, you will have at least one big hand involving A,K during almost any tournament. Either facing it or holding it. Those can be your make or break hands, and I had a low enough stack that it was a reasonable gamble at that time....

On Planet, I think a floor manage watches Mike and Roy's table. When someone knocks them out the let you know that you'll be credited for the bounty. I don't think it's anything special other than manpower. At least, that was the impression I got. I shouldn't speak for them... sorry.
