Getting around in Vegas, OUTLAW, 26. Sep 2003 05:11

Hey guys,
Looking for suggestions around going back and forth from downtown to the strip. I am staying in one of the cheapo hotels on Freemont but I plan on spending a lot of time playing bellagio and mirage. If I remember correctly the taxi ride was pretty expensive. Not something i want to pay a couple of times a day anyway. Is there a bus? Is renting a car the way to go? Prices? Thanks in advance.

OUTLAW,

There are several options for you:

The cheapest one is to walk!

You could rent a car for about $150 for a week.

The taxi ride will cost you about $12 from downtown to Bellagio + tip.

They do run buses (or as we call them here in AC....."jittney's"), that will probably be the cheapest way to go. I took one once about 6 or 7 years ago and it was around $1.50. Of course everything goes up but I'm sure they're still much cheaper than the taxi's.

However, If there's a few of you guys going, then you can split the cab ride or the rental car fee; whereas the buses charge per person.

good luck.

Just came back from Vegas - bus is now $2. Plan ahead though, with all the stops, it may take you a while to get to your destination.

2 bucks? Man, that didn't go up much at all! But I hear what you're saying though; When I took that bus, (and now I remember why I only took it once)... it took forever to get to my destination! (too many stops indeed).

If you can get to the strip there is a trolley bus that stops at all the strip hotels, I was there in may and the cost was $1.45...It goes from the Stratospere to the Mandalay Bay! Hope that helps.

I'd just make most my plays down town. the rakes are higher at the srtip casinos and the players can be better (and worse) on the strip. besides the CAT station is right behind binions. get a bus schedule. and check out the cat card prices. and go from there.

Taxi ride can be close to $20. It's WAY too far/scary to walk. Buses are possible but packed into a bus with a million other people when it's 100 degrees out totally sucks. Just rent a car, that solves all your problems. Shop around, but rental car rates are reasonable in Vegas compared to other cities.

by the time you rent a car and pay the 23% taxes associated with it you might just as well have stayed on the strip in a mid priced hotel. instead of a dump down town.

Play down town or take the bus.

another though is to take the casino shuttles that go to various casinos with in your target areas.
