How do you know when the odds are correct to call from the SB? Lets say blinds of $10/$20. There are 4 players in the pot when it gets to you in the SB. Pot is $20x4=$80 plus the blinds so its a total of $$110. I am getting 11-1 to call. So how do I know what hands are profitable with those odds? J8? K2? I wouldnt normally play those hands but with 11-1 odds preflop do I call and hope for the flop to hit me hard or what? I normally fold my SB unless I have a good hand because if I have K2 and call based on those odds and then flop a K, Im still in trouble. What about 6-1 odds with a K5s? Is there a formula to figure what hands to call from the SB based on different odds?

Hi Iceman

I know of no formula and if someone put one out I wouldn't play in that manner. Some things in poker need to be based on feel and this is one of them....It is not just the odds that are current....But what odds is the pot laying you if you win it?.....What is the propensity for your hand to just make the second best hand and get you in trouble?....How do your opponents play?....If they play well you must play tighter than if they play poorly.......Those are some concepts I think about in that type of situation.

WHY DO I SPEND MY VALUABLE TIME ANSWERING, IF YOU ARE
JUST GOING TO ASK AGAIN!!

POOP HANDS ARE POOP HANDS, NO MATTER WHAT THE ODDS
ARE.

WITH SOMETHING LIKE K5s and six players in, YOU MAY CHOOSE

TO PLAY, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE PREPARED TO NOT PAY OFF

A BETTER KING.

THE ODDS OF EVEN FLOPPING A DRAW TO A FLUSH, ARE

ALMOST NINE TO ONE.

ANOTHER CONSIDERATION, IS NOT HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE

IN, BUT HOW TOUGH THEY PLAY.

IF THEY GIVE FREE CARDS, YOU ARE MORE INCLINED TO

PLAY THINGS LIKE 97 OFF OR OTHER POOR HANDS, BUT

IF THEY DON'T, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY TOO MUCH, AND WON'T

EVER HIT A MIRICLE GUT-SHOT, THAT SOMEONE LET YOU

MAKE FOR FREE.

AS FAR AS TOTAL POOP, LIKE K2 OR 83, THERE WOULD HAVE

TO BE AT LEAST FIFTY TO ONE POT ODDS TO CALL, AND EVEN

THEN, YOU WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN

BY FOLDING.

ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU LOOK FOOLISH, WILL MAKE YOU

MORE MONEY IN THE LONG RUN.

ANYTHING THAT MAKES PEOPLE DISLIKE YOU, WILL MAKE YOU

MONEY IN THE LONG RUN.

THROW THE POOP WAY, AND REALIZE THAT ONCE ADAM

ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION, YOU DON'T NEED TO LOOK ANY

FURTHER.

I WILL NEVER GIVE AN ANSWER, THAT HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN

IN BATTLE, OVER MANY YEARS.

IF THEIR HAPPENS TO BE SOME ONE IN A MILLION QUESTION

THAT I DON'T KNOW, I'LL SAY "I DON'T KNOW"

THIS IS THE GAURANTEE YOU GET, WITH ADAM THE EXPERT

SO, SAVE YOUR TIME FOR NEW QUESTIONS.

A quick reminder ADAM UPF is based on the principles of " Here you can discuss poker in a polite, family environment. " so please be poilte and courteous to other posters.

I know that many of your posts are not serious but many people will dislike the arrogant manner that you sometimes post. I realise that you probably have a lot to offer this forum but please remember that many people here are just starting out in the game and will ask questions that you may find the answers are obvious to. If you feel you do not want to lower yourself to answer them, please, just ignore them.

Also i feel that if you added a bit of information to some of your statements then people may enjoy your posts a little more, you have never told us why you are so expert ? You talk of writing a book what is it called ? Where do you play, how long have you been playing for ?

Many Thanks
Chasepoker
