Quick question, in my home game I find I play extremely well when people are sitting at the table or watching. As soon as it gets heads up and everyone leaves I think I get bored and my play goes down hill. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on correcting it?

Thanks,
Brent

Brent,

I don't seem to have this problem myself, but I have some thoughts. It could be a number of psychological factors. Maybe subconsciously you are pessimistic about the size of pots when there are less people, and rightly so. Maybe the conversation died down when people left, and now the only thing to concentrate on is the cards. Either way, I'm not sure there is much you can do about this. Personally, I'd rather not play heads up or with three people in home games, partially because a lot of the time the people you play with are your friends, and partially because there just isn't enough money floating around to make it worth your while.
Come to think of it, this is a strange notion, because when I'm playing in a casino, I LOVE a shorthanded table, with only 5 or 6 players. I seem to excel when there are less players (easier to watch 5 than 10). It's an interesting point, nonetheless. Try upping the stakes when you play with less people, to generate more interest...

That is the only thing I have came up with. When there was a $300 difference between 1st and 2nd I was able to concentrate but when it is only $50 I lose concentration. This sucks not so much because of the money but because we keep track of tournaments and finishes. So, losing concentration costs me ranking. Oh well, just something I will have to practice.
