Is party TOO fishy??, jumpthru, 24. Sep 2003 17:01

In a NL25 at party, I have AA in late position. EVERYONE calls for 1.00 , and I reraise five...and four people call. Flop comes J65 high, and I go all in for $18. Two people call. Turn comes 6. One person goes all in, other folds. River is a blank. I lose to a 67 offsuit who called a five dollar preflop raise AND a 18 dollar all in on the flop with a pair of sixes 7 kicker...

Wait, let me repeat that...he CALLED my all-in of eighteen dollars with a PAIR of sixes no kicker...

Yes its good to have fish, but this just seems weird...either hes the worst poker player alive (or dead) or he knew the next card coming. I hope I get the chance again to go all in against him with AA agasint his 67o...hopefully the odds will work out in my favor next time....

EDIT: Okay, maybe party is tight...I just called an all in with QQ on the flop with a Ace high...and took it down against pocket 7's...if someone went all in on UB with a Ace high flop I would of laid my queens down in a second...

EDIT2: Good, the guy that just took my money just went called all in again with Ace high and lost to trips...worst poker player alive...not even joking.

The short answer is "no, Party is not fishy, that player is just a fish".

Many people have a built in distrust of online poker rooms because they can't actually see the cards being shuffled. It may seem that he somehow knows the next card because you always see his cards when he makes these spectacular suck outs. What you don't see are his equally insane calls that he makes, loses, and then mucks.

Keep playing those rockets exactly the same way! You might also want to spend some time playing low limit games, this will give you an opportunity to see just how frequently that happens, without losing your entire stack when it does...

Sorry maybe I didn't make it clear...

I dont think party is fishy, I was only joking about people knowing the cards that are coming...its just I was asking if there are too many bad players at every table. If you have Aces and go all in preflop, and 5 people call you with nothing, one of them is bound to his two pair...so I was wondering if its possible to be at a table full of terrible players and still lose.

Of course I feel bad about having my Aces cracked by a guy that calls an all in with 67o and like four outs...but I would play the hand the same everytime I played it and hopefully so does he :)

I have more than made up for that by now thankfully and I am finding it MUCH easier to make money then at UB.

Why only $5 pre-flop?? I would have made it at least $10 if not $15 to go and even the fishiest of fish would throw it away. I have found that it is much more difficult even for fish to call big bets/raises when they have only seen two cards instead of five.

yeah, shorn, why 5 bucks. AA in no limit with a small bet (he must have played at the table long enuf to realize 5 bucks would net a lot of callers) therefore slow playing aces can be suicide in situations like that. if he went all in pre, either everyone woulda folded, or more likely he woulda had a more desirable caller(s) and 6-7o folds, he wins. of course he may have lost anyway but i like allin on the hand, seems like a no brainer. doesnt pay to trap against 4 players does it? as everyone know AA wins 35% of the time approx.... but heads up your better off

No online poker is not rigged. Yes, people are very very stupid. No, there is no such thing as a site being too fishy. If you think you are suffering from implicit collusion, move up in limits.

New to online gambling so maybe you can clear something up. By "imlicit collusion" do you mean that the players might be working together? This would seem easy to do with the speed and anonymity of the internet. A player could even setup 4 different accounts on the same online casino and trap players in a 5 man high limit game, seeing all those cards and fleecing the pigeon.
Online poker seems the most cost effective way to play, but to find out that there's even a handfull of these guys roaming around would be enough to warn me off.

Implicit collusion is another term for schooling. Basically, a lot of players call against pot odds to draw to their second best hands, but since all the rest called, they each got the correct odds to draw. It's nothing intentional, it's just a product of playing with a bunch of bad poker players.
