| I had just finished a run of 8 out of 9 in the money finishes in 1 table SNG's (including 5 wins) so I was probably due for a run of bad luck when this hand happened. Was it as bad a play as I think? There are 4 players left (top 3 pay). There are 2 big stacks (about $5000 each) one small stack ($450) and me with about $1300. Blinds are $100/$200. Im almost guaranteed money and my full intention is to sit and wait until the small stack blinds out or busts. Im in the SB and get dealt pair of 8's. Small stack is the BB. I decide to raise to $400 to steal the small stacks BB (very bad decision I believe). He folds his BB but tragedy strikes when one of the big stacks calls. The flop comes 10 8 7 rainbow. I now have a set and decide that although I could check/fold and coast into the money, I cant see doing that with a set so I go all in trying to make a dent in the big stack. He calls. He had called my preflop raise with J9 and had flopped a str8. Is there any hand at all that you would have played in this situation? And after flopping a set would you have gone all in and risked being in the money? After this hand I swore I wouldnt bust out in 4th again. But I did. Hand #2......4 players left. All have around $3500. Blinds are $100/$200. I have A 10 suited and raise to $400. I get one caller (BB). Flop comes A K 4 rainbow. I bet $400, he calls. Turn is another 4 (second club). I bet $400 he calls. River is a 10 of clubs. I figure him for a K which I can beat , or an ace which would probably split the pot. I bet about $600 he goes all in. I honestly didnt notice the 3 clubs and thought he was trying to scare me off and that we would split the pot so I called. He had 86 of clubs and beat me of course with a flush. Its hard for me to believe he called the preflop raise at that point in the SNG with 86 suited. Did I misplay this hand? | ||

| 1st hand, you played it exactly right, getting all your chips in with a set is usually a dream come true and you will double up. Once in a while you will run into a better hand, or get outdrawn, but I think you have to play the 88s and with that flop, you aren't going anywhere. hand 2, I think you might have just been tired, I know when I start misreading the board, it's usually because of fatigue and I should stop playing. | ||

| 1st Hand: I think you were lying to yourself when you said you were prepared to sit back and wait to get in the money (inferring you weren't worried about winning, just placing). You raised from the SB, meaning one of the large stacks was already in the hand for 1 BB. Why not dump right there? This is the scenario you wanted! The BB had the easy play here, and folded hoping you'd get knocked out..........and lo and behold......... 2nd Hand: Oh well, you weren't watching. If you had been watching, I'm sure you would have bet more to win the pot earlier, but you didn't. | ||

| Hand #1...Now that I think about it, I mustve been on the button because I know I was the first one in the pot (with a raise). Now it seems even more stupid to raise the big stacks BB when all I need is for the small stack to blind out. | ||
