was gonna post about this yesterday, but time ran out and then after finally getting my deposit into PStars i had 3 hands illustrate exactly what i wanted to show/say.

order these hands were played was C-A-B but since C is the longest i want it last.

A im late position with K-Jo several callers in front of me i limp in and we see the flop *i figure at this point im laying odds to the trash hands so raising didnt seem so good* flop comes A-X-X rainbow someone bets and i fold, turn bringa a 10 and river brings the queen. ARGH you say i would i have won with a straight, yes but how likely was it someone had a pair of aces on the flop and i was playing serious catch up? i made a proper laydown *still not 100% sure should have been in hand at all K-Jo always throws me but im getting better* and THATS what matters

B late position again dealt A-7o couple callers in front of me then the player in front of me raises, had planned on playing it but cant for a raise in front of me, i fold, flop comes A-7-X and the winner was pair of aces with 8 kicker *not the raiser*

C now for the fun one, sat down at table on the button waited for big blind to come around so i could watch a few hands first, see whats what. small blind im dealt QQ, 6 or 7 callers when it gets to me, decide caution is good here and dont raise *KK or AA i raise, QQ i think is borderline with that many callers, if A or K flops i save a bet
if i get a flop i like the pot isnt so huge that gutshots arent being paid to call* flop comes JJT *UGLY!!!* but i bet out i cant let draws get free cards and if someone else raises i can toss the hand depending on the situation, 3 call, X on the turn well that a little better i bet again same idea no free draws and i think i might be in the lead, 2 call. K on the river, blarg straight could have gotten there over pair out there im kinda stuck with a crying call now, i chk MP bets inbetween folds and i call he shows me K-9o HUH????? he sticks around with a gut shot straight draw with a paired board and a front end bettor??? where can i find 5+ of these guys to play with?????

now the point of the post, i have seen several people ask how do you deal with bad beats? what about hands that would have won?
in the three hands i show i think that just about covers all scenarios nicely. the first 2 hands i made laydowns when the pot didnt justify the investment and the last hand i played the best i think could and got rundown by a much weaker hand, there is a silver lining to bad beats, if you can just shrug them off as good for your long term bankroll it focuses you a bit more, you notice that player a bit more closely, see what hands he shows down, you can get a decent read on their play.

One thing that I would have done is raise preflop with QQ. I dont think QQ is that solid when played against allot of callers. You might have been able to limit the field a little more. I probably would have checked after the flop and hope someone bets, and you reraise. Your goal is to limit the field!!

oh i agree i want alot fewer people in the pot but the problem was 6 or more were already there and getting them to drop wasnt really an option, so im kinda playing it as a drawing hand and again if i raise and they all call the pot odds are higher for draws. also remember a large percent of the flops will have an A or a K killing my hand with that many callers. *btw im aggressive in general, so im happy i gave thought to the fact that with that many callers by not bettting and getting called i was preventing the pot from getting so large that almost any draw would be good*

actually this raises a good question, against how many players does QQ start giving odds instead of getting them?

Good illustration. I agree with your play on all hands. I know that a lot of people will raise with Q,Q in that situation, but I don't think I would have on a normal table. You can bet that the you won't get the people who have already limped in to fold. And you are going to have to play your pocket pair from horrible position the rest of the hand.

I think the value of holding Q,Q goes way down when you know you are going to be in a large multi-way pot. I don't like to give odds for people to hold onto their overcards if they don't hit on the flop. (And with that many people, you know that there are Aces and Kings out there somewhere).
