Did I move too soon, INSINK, 23. Sep 2003 16:46

I made the move from the 8-16 to 15 -30 about 4 weeks ago. Since then I have played the 15-30 limit and lost from $100-$150 each session ( 3-4 hours ) I have been playing solid cards, ( tight /aggresive) and betting intelligently, raising to protect hands.......one thing I should mention.....in these 4 sessions the best starting hand I have had is pocket 10's .....twice ( I lost both hands...yes I did raised ) I have only caugth a cold on the river, and have won with 2 pair , or bluffed to win most times.

Did I move up too soon? Or do I need to be more patience?

Thanks for any replies.

I think it's really hard to tell from that information. You're probably the best judge of whether you have been playing good poker and how good/bad of luck that you've had during that time.

I think several losing sessions in a row should at least force you to evaluate your play (which you're obviously doing based on your post). Do you feel like you're being outplayed? It doesn't sound like you've been getting very good cards, so that definately has an influence. I would say go back and look over your notes or hand histories to try to figure out what the most likely cause for your difficulties is.

If nothing else, going back to your old limit might bring back your confidence, which can be a difference maker in a lot of games.

Good luck!

Hey INSINK,

It sounds to me that you really didn't have much to work with in those four sessions. If your bankroll is sufficient enough for $15-30 though, I would continue to play there, and as long as you feel comfortable being there, wait it out a bit. Four sessions is *nothing* to base your results on, even if you 'won' them all; and to lose only between $100-150 is a very small loss. Just because you didn't book a winning session yet, doesn't mean you don't belong there, either. You did only put in a few hours in each session; 'not enough time to have allowed things to turn around. But it did allow you to get your feet wet so, that's a plus, indeed.

Just one thing.......play your usual game and don't let the betting amount prohibit you from accomplishing that. Be confident being there, and pick your spots wisely.

Good luck to you.
