UB NL Tourney Situation. Should I be pissed?, mroban, 23. Sep 2003 07:48 | ||

| So last week I was playing in an Aruba $33 satellite and was in the chip lead when my cable modem went down. The blinds were at 30-60 and I had T3000 and 2 allin protections. There were 5 players left and I was coasting to the final 3. I got frozen in the midst of a hand where I had KQs passed to me on the button where I raised 180. I have no idea what happened after that, because I was frantically trying to reconnect and didn't write down the hand number (arrrggggh). Anyway, I reconnected 5 minutes later using my dialup service (it took me a few minutes to figure out how to do that) and the tourney was over. Obviously, there were only 4 left, someone busted and the final 3 won their Aruba chips (no doubt loving that somehow I was kicked out of the game). How could I have been removed from the game though? Don't my chips stay at the table? I could not have been blinded out in 5 minutes with the chip lead and the blinds at 30-60. Even if they went up to 50-100 immediately, I should have had chips left to play when reconnected. Isn't the policy that your chips stay at the table? I told UB that at a minimum they have to reimburse me or prove to me that I was blinded out. They have not yet sent me a transcript of the tourney despite my several requests. Anyone have any suggestions? Or is the policy to remove players to the game that are disconnected for more than a few minutes (which is ridiculous)? | ||

| I'm pretty sure that's not the policy. I've seen players be out for an entire tournament until they finally get blinded out (you can tell when a player is away as his chair is black). You should have stayed in the tournament and just kept posting the blind and folding (once you're two all-ins were used) | ||

| No. You should have been made grey until the end of the tourney or until you were blinded out. However it is possible that you were blinded out in five minutes by the following. Somebody says, everybody lets just blind this guy out and win the thing now. So everybody folds every single hand to the SB who always raises and they go through 1 hand every 5 seconds. You're blinded off really fast and they all win. Technically I would call that illegal tabletalk, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen ... or that they didn't all figure it out without saying it and start playing very very fast. At that poing it is not in their interest to beat eachother nomatter what the stacks ... just to beat you. | ||

| Yeah, that surely could have happened. But if UB won't send me the damn transcript I can't be sure. And I think the table talk would be in the transcript. If I was blinded out, then so be it (I am not going to raise a stink about illegal table talk - I don't think). But if not, UB should reimburse me. Too bad this happened, I would have cruised into the final 3. No Aruba for me this year. | ||

| UB still has not sent the transcript but has informed me that I was blinded out. So assuming they aren't lying, I suppose you were right stdioh. | ||

| While it is possible for what stdioh described to have happened it seems unlikely in only five minutes. First, you would need the fifth guy to bust out almost immediately and then it would take the other three a little while to realize you weren't coming back - say somehow both only take a minute total. You still would need to play at least 80 hands in just 4 minutes (at 50/100 blinds - 3000/150 round = 20 rounds * 4 players). That's a hand every 3 seconds which just doesn't seem possible. If it really only took you 5 minutes to get back to your seat I don't think you could have already been blinded out. Make sure you get that transcript. | ||

| Interestingly enough, after going back and forth with me and refusing (essentially) to give me the transcript, they just relented and refunded my $33. Of course I am gracious to them but this was a bunch of BS. I am glad to get my refund but they still will not let me see the transcript. Hmmm. Well, somewhat of a victory here, thanks guys. | ||

| I would say that they probably did collude against you and my initial thoughts were to ask them for a transcript but then after thinking about it i would say that even if they did there is probably not a rule against them doing so ( moral maybe, written probably not ) Better luck next time ! | They should be able to provide you with the hand histories of any hand that you were involved in. It's a little disconcerting that they seem unwilling to do that. | ||

| I agree Jav. But they reimbursed me, so I won a small victory back. Of course, I should be in Aruba, but thats another issue. | ||

| Jaustin, it wasn't much more than 5 minutes if at all (and possibly less). | ||
