News on Mohegan's Poker Room Closing, shorn, 23. Sep 2003 05:26

I played at Foxwoods recently and a lot of players and dealers were talking about why Mohegan Sun decided to close their poker room (a thread that Roy Cooke had started a month or so ago). Turns out that the poker room management was stealing from the room, and it is rumored that they were running some sort of prostituion ring from the room as well.

From what I was told, the closing is most likely temporary until they can clean up the mess and then at some point re-open the room in 2004.

No accusations here...just detailing the inside dope that I heard.

Shorn, I had heard about the prostitution aspect from a semi-regular player that I keep in contact with. That wasn't something I was prepared to allude to on this forum, coming from the grape vine. However I stand by my original post that Peter Lau grossly mismanaged that room. If you are right about the room reopening (perhaps next year), then the Mohegan's chose a wise course of action.

This makes a lot more sense than the story that was released from Mohegan management that they didn't see much of a future for poker

and the boom goes on------ Gary

They should be more embarrassed by that comment than by the prostitution.

What part? Other players are trying to take your money, managers are trying to take your money, some women (presumably the waitresses) trying to take your money... gives me an idea for a t-shirt:

"I lost my whole bankroll in a single weekend and all I got for it was this shirt (and that burning sensation when I pee)"

About 18 months before the room closed there was an infusion of cute young female Asian dealers. Many dealers who were there from the beginning were simply replaced. Draw your own conclusions.

let me guess - there was a not-so subtle change in the dealer dress code too.
