| This was an e-mail I was happy to receive: "PokerStars Tournament #352400, Pot Limit Omaha Buy-In: $10.00/$1.00 179 players Total Prize Pool: $1790.00 Tournament started - 2003/09/22 - 02:00:00 (EST) Dear KKingdom, You finished the tournament in 8th place. A $46.54 award has been credited to your Real Money account. You earned 95.11 tournament leader points in this tournament. For information about our tournament leader board, see our web site at http://www.pokerstars.com/tlb_tournament_rankings.htm Congratulations! Thank you for participating." This probably isn't a big deal to most of you but it's the first time I made the money and a final table of a relatively large online tournament. In this tournament I was totally determined to make the money and then play from there. The tournament payed to 18th place and when there were roughly 33 players left and I was in 16th place I basically shut it down. Folded all kinds of playable hands like pocket kings, pocket aces (to a big raise), some nice double suited and even a AKJ10 double suited hand (again to a big raise). I waited for the small stacks to get knocked out, made the money, and then played a bit more aggressive and managed to pull out 8th place. My basic strategy for the tournament was to limp in, check out the flop and take it from there. If I didn't flop a monster set, a made hand or a monster two way draw I got out of there. I limped in a few times with hands that had big potential like QQ and JJ type hands, hit a few sets, turned a few boats, and knocked a few suckers out. Finally got knocked out at the final table with pocket kings, somebody else had the pocket aces, oh well, I had to get it on I was getting blinded away. I'm glad I didn't let the short stacked sandbaggers make the money while I went overaggressive into a big stack only to get bounced out in 22nd place or some such thing like I usually do. It takes a lot of patience and you have to put your ego in check a lot to make the money, but if you're determined enough you can get there. | ||
