How much $$$ to bring to the tables, MrTeLLnj, 21. Sep 2003 19:53

Ok,,

what is this forum's opinion on $$$$ at limit tables , NL tables, Pot limit tables etc , money to start with or chips if you would rather say.

For the lower limit tables like 1-2 or 2-4,,,,is it better to use 1$ chips to add "mass" to your bets. Instead of throwing a 5$ chip. Does this in a way look or take a psychological effect of wooo hes putting in 8chips comparied to two 5$ chips. I find it looks stronger to put in more chips...to show power.,,write your opinions

1-2.........50$
2-4.........100$ ( witch i feel very comfortable starting with)

etc....please add more,,,thank matt

B&M's typically either have a rule or just a strongly-suggested rule of etiquette that only one color chip be used at those tables, you will look very out of place throwing around $5 chips at a 2-4 table and people won't appreciate it.

As for starting money, for anything 4-8 or under you will be playing with $1 chips, and most people buy in for no more than one rack ($100) at a time. As for what you have in your pocket, that's up to you.

Hi

I like to put around 60 big bets +/- on the table in limit games.;....In pot or no-limit if you play your hands well and are good at decision making in those games....put enough money on the table so that you have as much as any of the bad players that you are playing with.

Let me make sure I understand correctly. $3600 for a 30/60 game? Any particular reason? I have been thinking of trying this, to help myself make correct calls, especially on the river.

I generally buy-in for 20-30 big bets on any limit that I play. That seems to give me plenty of chips to play with and little to no danger of 2 big pots putting me all-in. Also, I will leave enough $$ on the table for an additional 10 big bets on the off chance that I am in a big pot.

The worst thing that can happen is having the nuts and running out of $$ when there are others willing to gamble it up with you.

ok 2 part answer
as someone posted most casinos pick a typical denomination for a table and thats what almost everyone uses unless someone moves up or down with the other tables chips.

several years ago *havent played recently to know if still this way* the 6-12 game used $2 chips and was almost always busier than the 5-10 game *large margin* and the reason suggested at the time was as you said physological, more chips means more action, more money.

as to the how much part, the standard thought a few years ago was being willing to gamble with 25 BB and here is thought behind it *at least one* say your playing a 1/2 game kinda standard format is bet and 3 raises so max *of course heads up could be more* was 4 + 4 + 8 + 8 or 24 and you want to have 2 full max pots available to you.

a couple weeks ago someone mentioned that if you can safely *mentally* afford it to double that so that your brain is never in a scared/loose/threshold of misery mode, once you have lost somewhere around 20 BB ask yourself are the conditions the same or better than when you sat down? are you still a favorite in that game? if you can honestly say that you think it is then stay but once you have lost the 25 BB give serious consideration to calling it a session, not because the table is unbeatable but because mentally you have been beaten on like a red headed step child and today just might not be your day.

now this is lowish limit stuff, stuff where you still need to play games with your brain sometimes, everything isnt natural to you, your gonna make wrong reads of tables sometimes *they are stronger than you think*

to me there is a definate difference between leaving a table broke and leaving with half my chips even if the $$$ amount is the same, its mental i know but its there why not use to your advantage?

For low limit games: one stack (20 chips) of the BB and one stack of the SB.
For a $2-4 game this is $120, but that is a weird-ball amount so round down
to $100. For $3-6, this is $180, so round up to $200.

If any new player enters your game and sees you have a healthy stack (assuming you haven't lost much), he will think you are a good player and will be wary of you.

Never buy-in with the rent and grocery money!
