| Hi all, I know lots of people have asked how to stay in vegas for cheap in the past, but i never paid attention to the posts. Now I have to ask again. My buddy is getting married and i want to set a bachelor party in Las Vegas. Anyone have any ideas/tips on how to stay there cheap. Obviously, i'd like to take in some poker while i'm there, and everyone else will be gambling at other games. I remember some talk about staying down town for free. Thanks all. Mark | ||

| Hey Mark, Well I don't about staying for free, unless you got some kind of a package deal through the hotel and the airlines (or you did some heavy betting at the craps table!).....but the downtown casinos are going to be more reasonably priced than the ones that are uptown, and the ones that are slightly off the strip will be less expensive as well. I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly, but you can always call the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce; as they can help to narrow your search a bit. 4P- | ||

| Every place is "free" if you're their kind of gambler- and if you have to ask, you're not :) What part of town do you want to be in, and how much do you want to spend? Eli on 21. | Downtown? Probably Las Vegas Club, Frontier, Fremont or Lady Luck would be my choice. Play poker at Binion's. | ||

| Poker players don't get comped all the good stuff. To get free rooms, food, etc., you have to get yourself a host and be prepared to play a lot of blackjack (and not at small stakes). No other game gets as much in comps as blackjack, not craps, not roulette, not even Casino War. My friend's mom used to host at Bally's and they decide to comp you based on the perceived loss rate. The dealers and floor persons keep an eye on your average bet per hour, multiply that by the number of hours you play (standard is minimum 6 hours for every night you stay @ hotel) and then decide what they'll give you for "free". They also have to feel that you'll be a "returning customer". So let's recap here. 1) You have to ask to have your play rated. 2) You have to have a host. 3) You have to play a certain number of hours at a certain rate at a game with negative expectation. 4) You have to make the casino personnel believe that you'll be back again on a regular basis. It's not easy. It's amazing how Vegas casinos make you work for your freebies. | ||

| One amendment to that- craps is a decent way to get comps. Most casinos measure your play based on how much you have on the table for any given role, and if you know how to play craps most of your money on the table will have a 0% house advantage, so there is a slower "burn" on your money but with a higher dollar amount at risk. While they may factor this into their formulas, personally I've found my comps rising since I started playing more craps than blackjack. Eli on 26. Seriously I've found good rates directly at each properties web sites. If you can beek during the week its myuch cheaper and a lot run specials. With two guys to a room at $69 to 99 a night thats not so bad at all. Have fun. John | ||

| I've been in the casino industry since 1991 and 8 years of those in games. Just remember that the casino does not rate your odds when playing craps. For example, you play a pass line w/ 30 flat and 60 in odds. You will only be rated for the $30, it is not $90. | ||

| I've been told otherwise, it may be a variation per casino. When I ask my host for my average bet, I can tell by the number I get that it includes everything I've got on the table (I never have more than $10-$20 in flat bets on the table, but my average will come in at $60-$70), and I've been specifically told that's how they do it by my host as well. I know what you're saying makes sense, but in practice I haven't seen it done that way, at least where I play. Eli on 26. | KJo, I don't know how you bet but it can easily be $60-$70 if you have place bets, prop bets, or play numerous come bets. Most casinos only count the flat though on come bets and pass line bets. If you want to earn comps at a casino, play the props because that is what pays our paychecks! The casino loves those bets made in the "middle"! | ||

| I definitely know better than to play the prop bets :) My bets are typically two or three pass/come bets at table minimum (or a little more) and full odds on each. I mostly play at the Hard Rock, and they've been kind to me :) Eli on 26. | Thanks all The cheapest rooms I've found (online) down town for 4 are at $65/night on the weekend and $35 during the week right downtown (lady luck I believe - i haven't booked yet). I assume i'd be in for a treat at that rate. All we need is a place to crash. As for the "bachelor party" entertainment, i assume downtown is the place to be. I've been to vegas before, but never got closer to down town than the Bellagio. Mark | ||

| You say you've never gotten closer to downtown than Bellagio- I may be reading your post wrong but I hope you've got your geography right since Bellagio isn't anywhere near downtown. Most of your "bachelor party" entertainment won't be on the strip or downtown though, the strip clubs are mostly a bit out of the way (not all of them though, but the better ones, OR SO I'VE HEARD :)) There ain't much to do downtown except gamble, which is alright in my book.
