Playing when the flop missed, cantfoldem, 19. Sep 2003 20:01

Holdem don`t Foldem
Im talking low limit 7 players or more seeing the flop most hands.
I play a lot of Big suited connectors and some big offsuit depending on position.
So I missed the flop, I always fold if there's a bet and a raise unless its like 2-3 players then I might call or reraise but folding here mostly.
But if its looking like only one small bet to see the turn I call or raise once in a while.
If the board is 3 in a row or 3 suited or paired Im done unless it helped me, even the runner runner to the big flush I will fold for any bet , but if I have the ace then maybe I see the turn for one bet.

Lets say the board is not to dangerous
Now if the turn is a blank I almost always fold, but when I catch a pair or big draw then I`m stuck and with multiway pots you could be behind still so I`m usually raising here on top pair calling the draw.

Am I calling to many small bets on the flop? Its hard to really generalize how I play here, the above is very general. I really fold here most of the time but I feel so darn tight. Am I giving up to much here by folding whenever the flop misses? Or should I have some general rules for continuing when the flop misses?

Anybody got any good ideas I`d like to hear them, Thanks

Hi CantFoldEm

Sounds like you can't fold them :-)!

When you call with overcards you have only 6 unseen cards to make a pair. So you are 41-6 to make a pair.....Lots of time you make that pair you will still not win the pot. You must average winning 7 times the bet called to draw when you hit your pair....And you MUST include the times and bets you lose when your pair loses.

I think you are overvaluing overcard situations...I will draw to overcards, but the situation has to be right.....The propensity to win has to be good and the situation has to lay me the right price....Be careful calling with aggressive players to act behind you that might raise.

Life is Good :-)

Hi. I'm with Roy. Playing overcards can be a significant source of leakage. This is even more true with lots of players seeing the flop. Since they are playing a very wide variety of hands, any of them may have (or make) two pair. Start to fold'em.

Barry and Roy,
I'd like to hear your points of view on this subject in a 6 handed game. I never proceed with them in a full table game, but short handed with position I think they are very valuable hands.
