| Mr Caro: can a field be added to search that allows you to limit searches to particular date ranges? like a "from this date to that date" set of fields? | ||

Hi, Larry -- Yes. Good thought. I already noticed that omission while I was searching for messages just now. I think there might be other features we could add to search, as well. The software isn't developed in house, though. It's commercially available. Maybe we could start a wish list for features, improvements, suggestions. Then I could send a summary to the forum administrators to relay to the developers. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro

| Good Morning Mike! Here is a couple features I like to have: 1. There are now 10 subject areas, but when I enter one of these there is no indicator of which one I am in. It would be nice to have title of the section in the grey bar above the list of threads. I oftten forget which topic area I'm after reading a number of threads. 2. I'm a long time member of CompuServe, and I really like the notification feature that I have messages waiting when I log onto a Forum and the ability to read these right then without trying to remember which thread I posted reply in and having to search for my posts. For example, in one of the topic section a member wanted to know where to buy a good (like real metal) card shuffler. I replied that you can really speed up the game by using two decks of contrasting colors and how to do this. I was thus curious as to how many people picked up on this. If there were no replies, I would then consider reposting this as a new thread. I learned of this in Yardely' book, but who would read it these days? This method really does speed up a home gome and ensures a better shuffle of the deck. 3. A voluntary memmber profile section would be nice. Most members use a screen name, but I would like to know the real peson behind the name. 4. Could the list of section topic be moved more to the left of the screen? This gives more space for the messages titles and reduces wrapping of the text. This is problem with long threads with many posts sometimes. This site has really taken off, and I really like it a ton. It is text only, has none of those really annoying flashing e-neon signs, and most importantly everbody is real polite and civil. I also like the editing feature that allows to correct text at a later time. This is the only site I have visted that has this feature. 4. Accurate serve time. Why is the server time usually 15-20 min behind local time here in Burnaby, B.C? -=-MouseEars-=- | ||

| In addition, I'm also part of a community writing site that allows members to privately message each other. I don't know if that's possible or to big an upgrade but it would be nice to be able to give someone your contact info without the whole world knowing it. Just a thought. beigs | ||

This is problem with long threads with many posts sometimes. Harold, it's a slider. if you position the mouse at the right spot (was a little finicky for me) until you see the black double-arrow <--> appear, then right-click and HOLD and you can slide it left or right as you choose and it should? hold the setting in the future (if the MS registry has an entry, anyway). This is the same function that lets you resize the outside window borders of any screen. move the mouse slowly back and forth over the right border of the elevator slider (the bar that moves messages up and down) until you see the white cursor arrow disappear and the black double arrow pop up. Sorry if a) I was talking down below your expertise level or b) this isn't what you were talking about

| Good Morning Easy E! Before posting a message, I now move the vertical slider to the left so that its left edge is flush with left edge of the screen. You right about this being a little tricky at first, but I can even do this effortlessly with my left hand using my el cheapo Kensington mouse. My really good Logitech MouseMan died mysterious a couple of years ago. I really liked that mouse. RIP MouseMan Mouse. I'm naturally right-handed, but I have found that you can keyboard much faster and use the cursor and num keypards more efficiently if you use your left hand for the mouse. Keyboards are designed for right-handed people. My keyboard is a Northgate Omnikey/Plus, the forerunner to the Morthgate Ultra, the finest keyboard ever made. This keyboard, which has a steel case and weighs in at 5 lbs. 3 oz., has a full cursor key pad next to the typing keys. That inverted-T cursor pad is quite hard on the wrist and a pain to use. Northgate Computer Systems went of business in the mid '90, and their keyboards become unavilable. Most fortunately, the Northgate keyboard has been rescued from cyberextinction by Creative Vision Technology, Inc. (www.cvt.com) and resurrected as the Avant Stellar and Prime. The Stellar is the Northgate OmniKey 101, the AT style keyboard, and the Prime is same as the Northgate OmniKey Ultra. Since these keyboards have double injected keys, the letters, numbers, etc never wear off. The keys are full stroke and have an audible-click action (ALPS mechanical switch). The touch and response are like no other keyboard, and this greatly facilitate fast and accurate keyboarding. These keyboards have an EPROM and are completely programable using Wizard utility. Dvorak cap key sets are also available. The typing keys have different heights and shapes. The keys in the bottom row are taller and have a steeper inward slope than top row keys which are shorter and have less of inward slope. The keys also have differnt curvatures. The inner edge of a "Q" is higher than the outer edge, for example. Edges of keys in the middle such as "G" have the same height. These keyboards are not cheap, however. The Prime is $149 and the Stellar, $189, The really good stuff never is, but these keyboards will last a lifetime and you won't get KTS. How can you justify the purchase of such an expensive keyboard? No problem. At age 5, my son began keyboarding on a Nothgate OmniKey/102, an XT style keyboard with the F keys on the left where God intended them to be, and by grade 8 was clocked at ca 65 wpm error free, and he had no lessons in keyboarding. At 16, he just flys over the keys at near light speed. If you are playing on-line poker, you want the best equipment available, don't you? -=-MouseEars PS: I don't get any promo fees form CVT, Inc. | ||
