straight flush x2, Craig Haut, 18. Sep 2003 20:00

I would like to know the odds of getting a straight flush( Texas Hold'em poker) with an Ace and Three in your hand, then the odds on getting a straight flush with only an Ace in your hand. What would be the odds on having them occur within 22 hands of each other and being the same ( A -Five Diamonds).

This looks like you're question to "prove" that a site has some mathematical problem because a single really unlikely thing happened twice in a short time. It doesn't matter what the answer is for these purposes ... the answer is really really really small. What is pertinent is that straight flushes followed by the exact same straight flush in a small period of time at the sable table for the same person happen *a lot* because there are so many games going on all the time. Something like "what is the chance of having a diamond steel wheel twice in 22 minutes using 1 card and then using 2 cards" is arbitrary and useless.

If you ever watch the jackpot hand on UB it proves what stdioh is saying. A royal flush wins just about everytime, and while you may think to yourself "How could a royal be dealt every hour? I've never even seen one in any session I've ever been involved in and I've played X amout of hands..."
We only interpret the randomness (or lack thereof) of the cards based on the preconceived card values.

I am trying to do away with the boring descriptive term Straight Flush in favor of the more sexy modern "SuperFlush".
Anyone with me?
Thanks

Nothing, you're just talking about one really awesome flush. But if you wanted to, I guess it's okay with me to call a straight a super.

Generally it is a slang term for the superintendent of a building who resides on premises, which differentiates them from a manager who usually does not live on premises.

I like it! 'Has a nice ring to it, too.

What would you call a royal flush then?...."Super Duper flush"?

I think you should call a Royal "The Motherload".

In today's politically correct society, shouldn't we be calling it a 'hetero-flush?'

I guess stdioh might not think that's as dumb, but I think we are not getting any closer to a snazzy memorable term.
I think once you start calling them SuperFlushes people will want to hold that hand more often, and you'll start seeing a lot more of them.

Marketing is everything.
(btw I think a royal should be a RoyalSuper)

Hetero-flush would indicate difference among the cards held. Thus any flush in poker would be a hetero-flush. If you were playing with 5 decks though and had all 5 Kh in your hand then your cards would be the same, so you could call that a homo-flush.

heheheh...the 11 year old kid inside me thinks this is hilarious.
