Chip dumping, beigs, 18. Sep 2003 08:28

I was playing in a Limit SnG on Party when a player had to leave the table. After he won a hand he proclaimed, "Damn... I was trying to dump." He then won the next hand when he said "Seriously... I have to leave. I'm dumping." Finally, he successfully dumped his chips.

Now... forgetting the hilarity that was his inability to lose hands, I thought it was really wrong to dump chips and say he was doing it. I was just wondering if there were any rules regarding that. I would prefer he just disconnect and be blinding away but on Party, they don't fold your hand right away. They make you wait the 20 seconds hoping you might reconnect so dumping sped up the game but it did give other players a huge chip lead. I'd like to recommend a solution to Party (not that it would matter but I'd feel better about knowing I spoke my mind.)

thanks,
beigs

If I'm not mistaken, the 20 second thing only happens the first time, then you are out (with the "I'm Back" button on your screen only).

I've see a lot of people randomly say they're leaving, only to be there once their monster hand gets called down and they take a huge pot. They just turn off the chat so they don't have to defend their actions.

Bad form.

I don't mind someone doing it, but I agree that the announcing thing is bad. Not really sure that you can change your strategy either unless you are heads up with the guy, because you don't know what the others who are in a particular pot are playing.

FIRST WE NEED TO CLARIFY TERMS: 'DUMPING" REFERS TO
DELIBERATELY LOSING YOUR CHIPS (TO A SPECIFIC PLAY, WITH
WHOM YOU ARE PLAYING PARTNERS)

IN THIS CASE, THE PROPER TERM WOULD BE :BLOWING OFF

YOUR CHIPS. SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO DO THIS, FOR FUN, AND

UNLESS THEY ARE LOSING TO A SPECIFIC PERSON, IT IS NOT

CHEATING.

ON PARTY POKER, THEY DO HAVE A BOX YOU CAN CHECK, THAT

YOU ARE AWAY, AND JUST FOLD MY HAND. BUT, IT IS NOT

MANDANTORY THAT YOU USE IT. SOME PEOPLE, LIKE TO

GAMBLE LIKE CRAZY, AND THEN IF THEY WIN, THEY TAKE IT

SERIOUSLY.

ONCE IN A WHILE, ADAM THE EXPERT WILL MAKE A MISTAKE,

AND ACCIDENTLY SIGN UP FOR A "LIMIT" HOLD EM TOURNAMENT,

UNSTEAD OF MY USUAL "NO LIMIT"

THIS IS GROUNDS FOR ME TO 'BLOW OFF" MY CHIPS, AS I DO

NOT WANT TO SIT FOREVER IN A LIMIT TOURNAMENT. I CAN

MAKE UP THE $100 BUY IN, MUCH QUICKER, BY PLAYING SOME

LIVE GAME, THAN SITTING THERE FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF.

SO, THE MORAL IS: BLOWING OFF CHIPS, IS COMPLETLY

DIFFERENT, FROM "DUMPING" CHIPS.
