| I went on a mini poker playing vacation earlier this summer and found myself in New Mexico and sat at the $4/8 game while waiting for the $10/20 game to open for me. I had been playing on this loose passive table for approx. 2 hours when all of a sudden two new players sat down. Player 1 - total maniac punk kid who blew 3 racks in his 1st 20 minutes. Player 2 - cute shy younger woman who folded her blinds, raised all-in etc typical new player mistakes. My read on her - 1st time player who had probably decided to try the game because she saw it on TV. The Hand - The lady is the SB and the maniac is the BB. I'm in MP with Pocket K's. There are a couple of callers to me and I raise. Everyone mucks to the lady and she calls. The maniac pumps it and I 3 bet it and the lady calls and the maniac caps it. We both called. Flop shows us AKJ. Lady checks, Maniac bets, I raise and so on until its capped with the lady just checking. Turn brings a J. Once again we cap it with the lady comming along. River brings a 10. Once again we cap it with the lady just calling. The Showdown - The maniac shows out of turn and proudly announces I got you guys on the river----- J's full of 10's. The lady springs to life before I can show my hand and calls the guy by his name (how did she know it?) and says " Tom, you didn't get anyone, that guy's K's full of J's beats you and I notched him with A's full of J's." !?! WHAT !?! After I picked myself up and thought about it and then watched her play -- she was an old hand at Hold'em....I took the bait hook line and sinker. I watched her pull this same move the next two nights...she waited for a great hand after playing dumb for awhile and baited a couple of shooters into her web and took a chunk out of their stacks. | ||
