| Hate to shill for a wwwsite, but I honestly have no dog in the fight--- But the concept was interesting enough to mention. (Especially given how many river chasers there are where I play...UGH) A new online site was launched that evaluates skill rather than luck to determine the tourney winners. Basically it goes something like this: If there is a $20 buy in and there are 4 tables with 4 players at each table. (Pot is $80 total at each table). You play a fixed number of hands. (Did he say "fixed number of hands??). Yea. You get a randomly selected seat and play. The players at the other tables get the identical hands as dealt at your table. So regardless of the results at your table, you are actualy competeing againsts the player in your same seat position at the other table for a share of the pot. So if in 20 hands you get 19 dealt 7-2os and one A-A, it comes down to who played those hands the best. It's not just fixed hand either, there are multi level. It also happens to be the only site in North America and legal (according to their site) Right now it's only play cash with some promo giveaways, but the real $$ site is launching soon. Anyhow, I'll mention the site if anyone is interested... but again, I hate gratuitous plugs. So I'll only toss it out if requested. | ||

| Short Run, luck is a huge factor. Long Run, a better player always gets the $$. However, at lower limits, if the rake is really high, you need a bigger edge over your competition to beat the rake. You might even be the best player at the table, but if your edge is very small, only the house will win. The good news is that it shouldn't be hard to find a loose enough low limit table to win money. | ||

| Hey noise- I agree with you. For that reason, I'm not so sure the site that Chikung described will prove anything. By the description, it sounds like you will only be able to see how players perform in the short-run, and leave too much to luck. If the fixed number of hands were a very large number, perhaps a closed experiement that takes place over a period of several months with regular sessions, then I think it might actually be worth something. -Moz "You can see your reflection in the luminescent dash." | ||

| Interesting concept - it's akin to bridge play. Seems very susceptible to cheating though as two players could sit in different spots in the same tournament and share their hands. Seems like a much better idea for a live tournament than a on-line one. I'll be interested to see if this idea actually works. | ||

| And I suppose, at the end of the day, you could still be a lunatic and get lucky. If you looked at a person in your same position, and saw that you were losing with X hands left, you could go "All-In" with your 7-2 on a whim and use the luck factor to hit a 7-7-x-x-x flop/t/r I'm interested to see how the multi-level tourney's will work. The site boasts daily Fixed hand multi table, multitable-multilevel, and bonus round multi-level (Whatever those will be within their system) I'll try it out tonight and pass on some info | ||

| It sounds like it. I think the conditions will be exactly the same and your rewarded for (presumably-- because as mentioned by others, time/hands is a factor) skill rather than dumb luck. The site is www.skillpoker.com they have info there. | ||

| They may as well put up a big sign inviting cheaters in. All you'd have to do is get a few people at different tables and tell each other that "seat 8 has KQo" or whatever. Unless I'm missing something, it's hard to believe they haven't thought of that. Eli on 17. | I guess seeing the same names on the leader board time after time isn't proof enough that those with skill will come out on top more often than not. You don't see many people winning the Big Game lotto over and over again. Just my two cents. beigs | ||

| POKER IS NOT BRIDGE, THERE SHOULD BE NO SUCH THING AS" EVERY TABLE GETS THE SAME CARDS. I WOULD RUN FROM THIS AS FAST AS I COULD!!!!!! THE VERY NOTION, OF A SITE CONTROLLING WHAT CARDS YOU GET, IS SCARIER TO ME, THAN ANOTHER 8.6 QUAKE HITTING THE TOWN OF ANCHORAGE, ALASKA (WHERE I LIVE) IF YOU WANT TO BE SAFE, I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND THE FIVE SITES WITH ESTABLISHED REPUTATIONS: PLANET POKER, PARIDISE, PARTY, POKER STARS, AND ULTIMATE BET. THESE SITES HAVE MAJOR ACCOUNTACY FIRMS, AUDITING THEIR SHUFFLEING, AND I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN MY MONEY BACK. ANY UPSTART SITE, SHOULD BE PLAYED ON, WITH EXTREME CAUTION. ANY SITE THAT WILL RIG WHAT STARTING CARDS YOU GET, MAY VERY WELL NOT LIMIT THEMSELVES TO JUST THAT, AND TAKE IT TO THE NEXT STEP. OR, AT BEST, THEY GO BELLY-UP, AND YOU LOSE WHATEVER WAS IN YOUR ACCOUNT. I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT THIS. WHO SAYS THAT YOU HAVE TO GET CERTAIN CARDS, FOR THERE TO BE SKILL. THE BEST PLAYERS, CAN GO A WHOLE TOURNAMENT, WITHOUT EVER GETTING AA, KK, QQ, AND STILL WIN THE EVENT. THE IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE, OF TRYING TO FIX SOMETHING THAT ISN'T BROKEN. THIS WHOLE THING, SOUNDS AS STUPID AS AN ARTICLE I READ YEARS AGO, WHICH SUGGESTED THE ELIMANATION OF ACES, KINGS, AND QUEENS, IN HOLD EM, THINKING THAT THIS WOULD ELIMANATE PARTNERSHIP PLAY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DO IF YOU GOT ONE OF THESE HANDS, THROW ONE CARD AWAY I SUPPOSE. WHAT A JOKE!!! LISTEN TO ADAM THE EXPERT, AND SAVE YOURSELF MONEY. THIS SITE CANNOT, AND WILL NOT WORK. | ||
