| Hello ppl, Well....just thought I would post a question to those out there who know the answer or indeed use sunglasses: 1). Why do poker players wear sunglasses? I figured it was to block people picking up facial tells .....or perhaps so that no one else can see where you are looking.....but I am not 100% ...obviously.....could someone calrify this ..or set me straight? 2). How would you pick a good pair of sun glasses? I mean are there certain things you look for ? (keeping in mind the answer to quest. 1) Anyway, I am thinking I am gonna have to invest in some, although I can't see how I am reacting to the flop, turn, river etc I am pretty sure I am giving away some tells here and there....... Any help you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Ben | ||

| Sometimes you can tell someone's strength by where their eyes go. Maybe Jim always looks up and left when he's on a monster, and Bob always glances to his chips when the flop hits him hard (this is a very common one) If you're buying sunglasses, just make sure they are not too reflective on the outside. There's nothing better than being able to catch a glimpse of someone's hole cards off the reflection. Lee | ||

| Somebody on a previous post recommended, based on this subject, a welders helmet. It shields the eyes, as well as, any crude facial expressions you may make. ; ) | ||

| If I ever make it to a televised final table, I'm going to wear a Mexican wrestler's mask! That should keep Howard Lederer from reading me like an open book. :) | ||

| Hey "Big Enchilada" - I'm pretty sure the mask has eye holes. Now if you wanted to wear a Spider man mask........... on 17. | I like the welding helmet idea--lots of room for sponsor logos. | ||

| Hey- I usually wear my sunglasses during tourney or higher limit play. Sometimes, even at low-limits. I wear them for both of the reasons you mentioned; to hide any sub-conscious tells my eyes might be doing, and to watch other players more easily. I find I'm self-conscious about making eye-contact without them, but can stare down the best of them with my glasses on. The only suggestion I have for buying a pair is the same thing Lee said, make sure they are not too reflective. Mine actually came with my eyeglasses and clip on. They are dark amber-colored and don't reflect a whole lot. -Moz "You can see your reflection in the luminescent dash." | ||

| I haven't been wearing sunglasses at the tables but am starting to think about it. I've noticed "aware" opponents watching me watch others and don't like the response to it. Unfortunately, i think that by wearing sunglasses, i will have everyone at the table respond to me, instead of just one or two opponents. I'm still trying to decide. Mark | ||

| I tried wearing them once and felt like a fool and a pooser. I think I ended up getting more attention and brought a more serious tone to the table than I wanted. IMO if they really made a difference then you would see all proplayers wear them or even a majority. | ||

| If you feel more confident with sunglasses on--whatever the reason may be--you'll play better and make better decisions. If you feel like an idiot wearing them, you'll probably play like crap. It's no different than deciding whether or not to wear your lucky underwear. As Phil Hellmuth says, "In order to win, you have to feel like a winner." If a nice pair of Ray Bans earns you a couple more bucks a day, then by all means go for it! | ||

| Fish: Its mostly to avoid people picking up tells. The eyes give away a lot of information. I have a hard time playing with dark glasses and I have a pair of blue tinted raybans that are easier to see cards with indoors in mediocre casino light but still prevent people from seeing my eyes. they also are pretty damn cool looking. | ||

| I think I've got the same pair--silver frames, blue tinted lenses, partially mirrored, slight wraparound, about $100 or so? I agree completely. If you need a pair of poker glasses, you can't go wrong with these. | ||
