| hey im sorta new but me and buddy have been arguing non stop about how straights work in texas holdem. I say it can only go A2345 and so on but not JQKA2, he says you can have a straight like that tell me whose right | ||

| You are right. Straights can begin and end with an Ace, but you cannot "wrap around" like your friend says could can. God help me figuring out my odds if they change the rules! How would you know what the "nut" str8 was!!?? | ||

| i think that with wrap straights that the low cards would now be the "top" card of the straight. in regular straights, the lowest card in the series is the bottom and the highest card in the series is the top, in sequential order. so, 34567 is a 7-high straight, because 3 is lower than 4 is lower than 5...etc. in a wrap straight, since the bottom card is the lowest in the progressive sequence, the hand QKA23 would be a 3-high straight. it can't go the other way since the K is higher than a Q, much like a 4 is higher than a 3. a 3-high straight would be lower than a wheel (5-high straight A2345). stupid right? that is why wrap straights shouldn't be used. | ||
