A night of bad beats, mkpoker, 16. Sep 2003 10:18

I resolved long ago never to burden others with my bad beat stories. But now that we've divided this forum and have a special bad beat section, it seems a waste not to participate!

Last night was the mother of all bad beat nights. Not only did I get out-drawn, but I was out-drawn in the most bizzare ways, as if the poker Gods were evening things out after a recent string of good luck. My personal favorite hand was this:

I hold AcKc. Flop is QcJcKh. Top pair + top kicker. Nut flush draw plus nut gutshot straight draw (not to mention one card to the Royal Flush). I play very aggressively, betting and raising at every opportunity. How do I lose (I could handle losing to a straight)? I lose when a 2 on the river makes a set for a player holding pocket dueces.

Another: I have 8-8 vs. 6-6. I'm a heavy favorite, I know, but we've all lost out to set...That would be too easy! I lose this hand to a flush, when 4 hearts hit the board.

All night, I was 0-6 on flush draws and 0-4 on open-end straight draws. Finally quit down about 30 BB after 3.5 hours.

Anyone that would go for a river draw holding pocket 2s against QcJcKh is umm... well someone I want on my table

We all get bad beats and some are such as 22 but some are just out draws with lots of odds. When I out draw someone when I have lots of outs they say bad beat and I just smile.

When I get out drawn on the River with a 3 outer I think bad bead and say nice catch.

I got my AA cracked in 6-12 with a Q3s when a Q hit the river. That was a 5 outer vs my over pair and a 9 outer. If the board paired then my 2 pair would have been higher so I had more outs; like 9 outs for a pair on the board and 2 for an Ace; can't count the 3 that would give hm a set.

I call that a bad beat and since the pot was pretty big I was upset. :-(

Such is life and poker.
