Question about home games, HoldemNewbie, 16. Sep 2003 08:28
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
I was planning a holdem home game with a bunch of my friends...probably going to have 18 players. One guy said lets all sit at one table. I said we'll have two tables of 9 to start...

But he insisted on having one table. Whats the big deal? We have enough cards to deal 18 people.

Any opinions of whether this is a good or bad idea?

I would say bad idea because then every player will get to see less hands than if there were two tables. Plus, what table do you have that sits 18??

Tell your buddy that the "pro's on TV only play at tables with a maximum of 10", so wouldn't it be better to do it similar to them? Might work.

Good luck.

I think with 18 players you'll have to play Texas Hold Em with Omaha Hold Em strategy. You must understand that top pair with a good kicker is not going to win all that often if 10 or 12 players are taking the flop. You'll have to be much more fearful of paired boards, and much more inclined to play hands that can make the nuts like ace suited for flushes and J10 for straights. Pocket aces or kings might not hold up nearly as much unless you hit a set or the monster full house, people will just make too many junky two pairs, cheap sets, or straights or flushes.

Throw him the first seat change coin and tell him to sit down.

18 at one table? That's either one big table, or you guys & gals are really small folks.

ADAM CAN'T COMMENT ON THIS, BUT WILL GIVE YOU A HINT

FIVE YEARS AGO, THERE WAS A CASINO THAT WAS GOING

UNDER, THEY REALLY NEEDED PLAYERS. ADAM TOLD THEM

HIS IDEA FOR A GAME THAT EVERYONE WOULD HAVE TO TRY

AT LEAST ONCE.

CAN YOU GUESS WHAT THAT GAME WAS????
