NO UPF TOURNAMENT ON UB THIS WEEK !!!!!!, chasepoker, 15. Sep 2003 18:58

Sorry everyone i have just recieved this email from UB they are now planning an upgrade to there server this week, apologies i have only just found out !

Email from UB

" Hi Richard -

We now can't make your tournament this week. Our tech team is planning a software update and I don't want to schedule your event around this time for fear something goes wrong with it. Is there a date next week that will work for you?

I'll have to look these players [ sent to UB ] up to make sure I can code them. If I can't change some of them, I'll let you know. If that's the case they will need to establish a different account to play in this event. Once they are coded they can sign up themselves. You don't need to be sure they'll actually play.

Caitlyn"

Also it looks like there may be problems with using existing accounts now at UB !!! Seems a bit strange maybe it's time for a site change ?

Any suggestions anyone ??

Cheers
CP

I'm just glad I keep an account at both Party and UB. When one goes on the fritz, I can still play.

As far as the tournament, any weekday is fine with me. Time doesn't really matter.

Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum and would appreciate any help that i can get. Anyways i have a question about a hold em hand.

I was playing in a nl holdem multi table and it got down to the final 7. I had 35k which put me about 4th on total chips. The blinds were 2k/4k and i was in the small blind with QQ. It gets folded around to the chip leader in late position who puts in a minimum raise. From the small blind i reraise to 16k, big blind folds, and leader puts me all in. Can I make this call with QQ? If i fold i am the shortest stack with only 4 bb but if i call he might be on a monster. Up until now he had been playing pretty loose. The end result was me calling the all in and loosing to 89s when the board paired 8's.

Did i play this incorrectly? Again i appreciate the help and hope to be posting more from now on.

Thanks
Andrew Jones

I think you played it correctly. It was likely that he was stealing from his position and trying to bully the blinds. Since he had you covered but a good amount (I am assuming), he was trying to force you off of overcards by representing a pair and he was in deep shite when you called all-in.

This was just one of those bad luck situations. There is no way that I would throw away QQ in that spot.

After thinking about this hand a lot, I think it would have been better to raise more. If you are willing to call if he goes all in, you should send that message with your raise, and also give him poor odds to call. Also take into account that a lot of weaker players think they can force you off a hand with the random-all-in rather than just cutting their losses, which is what seems like happened here. I would have made it about 22-24k here to send the message that I was really in this thing. Other than that, there's not much you can do.

Lee-

This is one of the rare times I disagree with you. His 16k raise basically should send the message that he is pot comitted (investing almost 50% of his stack). BUT, it still gives the large stack two legitimate options: Fold which is fine, or continue to push a marginal hand to try and bully (which IMO, given ths situation, is more desirable for the QQ). I would rather give him both options here as I don't wnat him to fold a lower pair. I want him to do exactly as he did...try to bully where I can get more equity from him.

I think a 24k raise would have likely caused him to throw his hand away and because the QQ read him for a steal, that isn't what he wanted.

Any flaws in my thinking?

Thanks,

Steve

My worry is that the bully will keep trying to bully with an Ax or Kx hand, and while he would be a sizable favorite against such a hand, it's the final table and I think I'd rather just take the pot down now. The bully got really lucky to win with 98s, but would you have prefered he kept bullying with AJ and spiked that ace?

Also, the 16k should send the message that he is pot committed to a reasonable player, but lately, if I want to say I'm pot committed, I'll really say it in these types of things. Seems like too often someone thinks they can bully me off my hand by pushing me all in after I've put half my stack (or more, sheesh) out there when they've got nothing but their flush draw. Then it just drives me bonkers when they connect and I'm done.

I do see your argument though Steve. I guess it could go either way, but I'd really rather just take the blinds plus his raise. With KK I'd be a lot more inclined to raise less, but QQ can be vulernable.

I think youre read on him was excellent and you played it right. He outdrew you. For someone to go all-in with 89s and win, he had the poker gods in his corner. Nothing you can do about that

If it can be set up in time, might as well make it same time next week. What are they saying about using existing accounts? It was very vague.

Considering they alerted you to these upgrades instead of just going with Wednesday and possibly crashing or causing players to be unable to get seated, I'm for giving UB time to sort it all out. I didn't read any complaints like there were with the inaugural one on Planet, so I'm willing to wait and see.

Hey-

UB is still good with me. I'm willing to wait a week or two. Just keep us posted.

Ok i will see if the same time next week or the week after is good for UB.

But i take this to mean that if you already have a UB account then you will have to sign up a new one to be able to play in the tournament, i guess if that is the case everyone could sign up another UB account and just transfer the money from their existing account to their new one. Also, i guess, everyone could have their UPF name on UB.

It is just this bit about having to set up a new account that worried me a little, but if everyone is cool about it then, Robets your fathers brother.

Cheers

IIANM, she said that she would see about getting everybody queued into the UPF distinction, so I don't think we'll need to set up new acounts unless she's unable to do that. I certainly don't feel like creating a second UB account and having to deal with all that.

Same time next week is fine with me. Their email was a little strange and disconcerting. I say we give them a chance to work it out.

I like their software too much to give up on them right away!
