| UB $50 nl tourney last nite, 2 tables left in the tournament, everyone's in the cash. 200-400 blinds, guy UTG raises the minimum to 800, i'm next with queens, and raise that to 3000, some guy in MP goes all-in for like 6K or so. haven't played long enough with the guy to have any idea about his play. i think about it for awhile, but i've put this guy on aces or kings, so even though i have only 2700 chips left, i fold. this then put me 17th out of 17 remaning. guy never showed or said what he had. however, i do go on to win the tournament! aided by 3 lucky draws: my all in ace 7 beat ace queen suited, and at the final table my all in king queen beat ace queen, then suckered out a 2 pair on the river for another guy's all-in. i reasoned that even though queens were a huge hand shorthanded, i thought i had enough chips to be able to pose a threat and steal some blinds before i would have to go on an all-in fest. | ||

| That's definately one of those marginal calls. At that stage of the tournament the blinds are so high that it's not unusual to see people go all-in with A,K, A,Qs, and pocket pairs down to 9,9. (And much worse hands for short stacks). I would have given you a much better chance with Q,Q in an all-in situation than normal, but it's hard to say what the right call is without knowing all the players and their tendencies. But it sounds like you did a good job either way, it's tough to win those big tourneys! | ||

| yeah, i would agree for the most part that i would call with that hand. i put him on a minimum of slick though cuz he started the hand as an avg stack like mine and i didn't think that most would jeopardize their whole stack with less than that after it's been raised and reraised....but thanks, i'm quite happy with the way it turned out too! | ||

| Based on the fact that you committed over 50% of your stack to the hand (3000 out of 5700), I think you have to go all-in with QQ. So, that is the decision that I would have made. Likely, however, I may have made a slightly smaller raise with QQ (like making it 1500 to go), so that you COULD get away from it more cheaply. That would have been a pot sized raise (200+400+800), so anyone who calls or comes over the top of you as the third raise, you have to give credit to. I just don't like committing 50% of my stack and then not getting to see any cards. Way to fight back and win it though... | ||
