Should I step up????, HoldemNewbie, 15. Sep 2003 10:44

| My initial depost was for $50 on UB. I play a very tight / aggressive game usually at the LL .25/.50 to .50/1 games. Im trying to keep track of my progress. I consistently win at these LL games. In about a 5 hour session, Im usually up about $20. My current bankrool is $170. It would be more but wife likes to play too and she doesnt listen to my advice so she loses almost every session. If she hadnt played at all, my bankroll would be around $300. Do you think I should step up in play? Is $170 enough to take to 1/2 or 2/4 tables? | ||

| Less a few details, you sound a little like me. I just joined on to UB this weekend with a $100 deposit. The minimum table(10 player), I played was $1/2. I never brought in to a table for more than $30 or $35. I left once with $1.75 and was up or down marginally ($3-$15) most of the other times. Over all I finished the weekend slightly up(+$3). My point.... Depending on your style of play, you should have enough. I might have seen 5-10 people over the weekend with more than $125 at any $1/$2 table. But I am truly a newbie, so what do I really know? Mss | ||

| As long as you are going to feel comfortable and confident at a higher limit table you should step up. If you don't have anymore money to invest you might want to hold off on the $2/4 game until you have at least doubled your committed bankroll. One bad session could put too much pressure on a bankroll of $170. | ||

Hi, Personally, I don't think $170 is an adequate bankroll for $1-2 and $2-4 because you have to take into account that your wife is also going to be playing off of that same bankroll (and as you stated), she loses almost every time she sits down. So for that one reason alone, I wouldn't move up quite yet, unless, you think you can beat the next level, and/or losing what is in your account now, won't effect you much and you'll have easy means of replenishing your account. Keep in mind, if you do go to play $2-4, no matter how well you play....be prepared for bigger losses and make sure you are winning enough money to cover your wifes losses or it'll go just back and forth with perhaps no sign of an increased bankroll. If you're going to play at the 2-4 level, keep the mrs. at the lowest game possible.....especially if she's just playing for fun! But what I would do is, try to really get her interested in poker and perhaps read a few good books together and stuff like that. Once she starts booking a few wins, she then may want to learn even more about the game. It's a slow process for everyone, but it's worth a shot, and it will be another thing that the two of you can share together and talk about on the same level. Good luck to you. 4P-

| Thanks for the advice. Lately I just let her play NL $5 - $10 sitNgos, cause thats the most she'll lose. She does alright , placing in the money a couple of times. She knows the basics of what hands to play. She has a hard time folding and doesnt know the Math part of the game. So in limit games she does horrible. She loses there and at the .10/.25 blind NO limit cash game.... When she sits down and watches me play, she gets bored as Im very tight. She doesnt have the patience to fold and fold and fold.. | ||

Hi, That's a good way to go; small sit-n-go's. Hey, that's *great* she's placed in the money.....give her a "WTG" from the UPF! Dave

| Count your blessings! My wife likes bingo, so all my winnings go to feed her habit. When she does play poker, she is satisfied with the Micro-limit penny-poker games on UB. You might check those out, fast and loose action at minimal cost. They have both limit and NL penny poker there. | ||

| You probably have enough to play 1/2 (85 big bets), but I would sterr clear of 2/4. A few bad runs of cards at 2/4 and you can easily lose $170 despite playing well. | ||
