AJo, ATo, and KJo in the SB, shorn, 15. Sep 2003 07:59 | ||

| I have a feeling that I am costing myself a lot of $$ with these hands out of the SB position by completing. I can't decide what number of limpers makes it right to just complete, when it would be better to raise, and when it would be better to just fold. Obviously with a raise from EP, I generally throw it away, but completing with these hands can get you into a dominated situation. I would like to hear how others play these hands from the SB. Thanks, Steve | ||

| Hi Steve I am always calling an unraised pot with those hands in the little blind.......The price the pot is laying me is going to be correct unless the field is very shorthanded with a player that would only play hands that have you "trapped up". (Very rare circumstance). Roy Cooke on 15. Sep 2003 07:59 shorn wrote: > I have a feeling that I am costing myself a lot of $$ with these hands out of > the SB position by completing. | steve, I was given advice recently to do exactly what Roy said and it has been fairly profitable. Actually, the advice was to play pretty much everything except the bottom hands in an unraised pot from the SB but check and fold unless you double hit the flop. With AJ and even AT in the sb (and I think KJ) if you are in a game where players are raising AQ and KQ without fail, I would bet into the flop if a J hits and see where the action goes. Then make a judgment call based on the action. This has been a profitable play for me in low limit online games. Not sure how well that works at higher levels though. | ||

| Hi. While the type of hands you should playin unraised pots varies a lot withthe size of the smalll blind relative tot he big blind, the three hands you mention are pretty much always playable for no raise. The problem comes in actually playing these hands out of position when you catch a piece of the flop. For example, you complete with ATo against three limpers and the flop comes QT5 with two of the suit you ace is in. Should you bet out? Check and Call? Check-raise? Check and fold? The answer unfortunately is "yes" depending on who your opponents are and how they play. Check-flod is an option most do not think about here and it is frequently correct. People will get vary active in this type of situation and it will cost them money. So play the hands, but work on getting off them when it feels right to do so. Also remember that poker s a wierd game where inexplicable things happpen in streaks. Just because you lost several pots witht hese hands does not mean much excpet poor luck, probably. BarryT | ||

| Thanka Barry. You are hitting my problem on the head exactly...in the past, I have tried to push this second pair top kicker hadn into one or two opponents when checking/folding is potentially a more optimal play. Acting like you are in late position when you are not can cost a lot of $$ with these hands. | ||
