| I have been trying to develop my skills online with play money. From what I have read here and seen while playing is that it is very hard to work on your skills because of the fact that ppl don't care about the bets because it is not real money. I do not have a bankroll to play for real money any thoughts on how to work on my skills with the river runners and ppl who do care about the skill. Thank in advance for you advice | ||

| I think you might look into tournaments. In a play money ring game, players can go back and get more, so there is no finality, or basis for comparison. In a tournament, you can play the correct way, see how you do, and go back to evaluate your moves. A lot of the time you'll find that the final few players actually play a few hands correctly, so just play your game and see how things turn out. You'll definitely be able to tell if your opponent would have realistically been in the hand that you ended up losing to, if you do lose. It's also a fabulous way to learn discipline and patience, 2 things you need before making that first real deposit. on 15. | Some of the higher limit play money tables are a bit more realistic and people take them seriously, but it general play money doesn't help your game. I'd advise playing micro-limits (.01/.02) - UB has this and do some other sites. People still play loose, but not nearly as bad as at the play tables. | ||

| I think it would be better to practice on the microlimit tables. You don't need much of a bankroll to play at the $.01/.02 tables. 300BBs is only three dollars. People will still play really loose, but since it is real money, you will be getting real experience. When you start doing well consistently, then move up. Good luck! | ||

| Play freeroll tournaments...thats what I do, and now I am starting to win some money...its great practice and, of course, its free. I am learning alot from my play, and getting a little better each time. You will still run into some serious maniacs, but they are usually busted out by the 4th or 5th level. There are a few sites, I typically catch 4-5 freerolls a day, if I am not working. The morning ones are usually the better ones...less drunks and more serious play. Kimmi :) | ||

| I play at popular poker, americas cardroom, any of the Prima Poker networks(they also have a $10 sign on bonus, no deposit), poker stars( a tuffie for newbies like us, 1500+ players), absolute poker, 24hr poker...I have only set up 2 real accounts, Party Poker and Ultimate bet. There is, of course, Mike Caro's site Planet Poker ( I like the players there, alot...really nice people) and poker room. Hope this helps! Kimmi:) | ||

Hope this helps! > > Kimmi:) Hi Kimmi---I was thinking about the future of poker in general and i got to thinking about you and your trying to understand where a young lady like you fits in.Poker players, by nature, tend to be chauvinistic. The influx of twentysomething WPT males has added to that problem. The missing link in poker growth at this stage is ladies in your age group. Those macho guys will try to discourage you ( as you have already experienced ). You need to talk with other female posters so you can share in their experiences. May I suggest you watch for posts by Wren, Studiohs g/f and defending UPF champion, by PBG who was paintballgirl at one time and before that alyssa chan. Watch for their posts, respond and build a rapport. Because of your lack of testosterone drenched ego, you ladies will run those guys right off the tables. Good Luck--fem the boom---Gary | ||

| Hi Gary!!! Well, I am starting to toughen up a little and its starting to scare some of the loudmouths that I first encountered. I am happy with my tourney play, but still need a ton of work on my ring games...as far as "hanging out" with the female players, alot of them don't like me much either. They think I am a "fluff" player(whatever that means). I am finding that reading the posts here, applying them to my game, turning the chat button off and collecting my freeroll winnings is starting to become lucrative. I want to eventually start playing live tournaments, and go from there. Right now, I am playing 7 card with my dad and his poker buddies. They are easy targets...I would love to sit down at a table and beat the pants off of a young, arrogant guys who think I am just a pretty face! I am always open to criticism and would love to get to know the other women here at this forum. We all need to stick together and start letting the guys know, we aren't leaving! Being 34, I still have sometime to practice before leaving my mark on the poker scene! LOL, lets hope i do. Thanks again, everyone, for incredible info and support! Kimmi :) | ||

| Hi again Kimmi--- 'Fluff' player means too feminine. As in other parts of life, some women think that equality is achieved by acting like a man. Equality is an intellectual quality, not a sexist one. i wasn't advocating "hanging out' with fem players but getting to know the young ladies who are respected posters on UPF. Continued good luck --play what your comfortable with and ( to borrow from Mike Caro) just win, baby----Gary | ||
