| So there I was trying to re-qualify for Aruba in a $22 satellite. Was in a very tough game, fought down to the final 3. Was stealing blinds and building my stack up (I was trailing the leaders the whole way) into a virtual tie with the top stack (T3200 v. T3400) when this hand comes up - I am on the button, blinds are 100-200 and get AQs. I make a healthy raise of 650 and the SB comes back over the top allin. The BB folds (T2900) I pause for a second and was going to throw the hand away. I mean I know that AQ is not a hand to go allin with, especially in this spot. One away from Aruba qualifying. Why even bother with this? Problem is, the guy had done this to me a few times and I kept throwing my hand away. Although I had been successful stealing his blinds (he didn't always defend) I got the sense he would defend with basically any playable hand (AT, KJ, etc.). so I am obviously in trouble if he has QQ, KK or AA (or AK) he could just have easily a lesser hand. I call. and he flips over JJ. Okay, a coin flip basically. Flop comes with a J in it and I am toast. I think this was a serious overthink for me. The CORRECT thinking should have been "I have AQ and this is not a spot to call an allin bet whether you have him beat or not". I know I wasn't that big an underdog, but bottom line if he had KJ or something else, I wouldn't have been that big a favorite. So either way it was a lousy call. At best, I could have gotten lucky, but that is not a good poker play. I was pissed off at myself afterwards but I think this is a really good lesson to learn from. I think this really is a cardinal sin and something that I will not let happen again. 1 spot away from the money to play a coin flip hand as the chip leader is just plain stupid. I think this is a really good lesson to learn from and clearly a situation I will avoid like the plague in the future. I could have easily folded this, stole 2 more blinds afterward and been right back to T3200. | ||

| The good news is that they extended the Aruba Satellites! One more weekend to get there. I'm finally getting high speed internet on Tuesday, so I might actually have a chance. Good Luck mroban, maybe I'll see you at one of the last few Supers. | ||
