Okay...I am at the final table of the WSOP Warm Up Round 2 at Bugsysclub

Out of 122 entrants there are 9 of us left.

I am 4 off the button with about T70000 I get my cards and see QQ. Blinds at this point are 8000/16000. I'm one of the lower stacks at the table. I make a raise of 35000 to let the table know I am serious...SB has about T100000 he goes all-in...I call. He has AJs

Flop comes Ks10sJ...Turn is a 9...at this point I'm fairly exstatic. Then the river comes Xs...My jaw hit the keyboard...I believe the SB made a mistake in raising me with the AJs.

Is there a better way I could have played this?

In no limit tournies you have to take chances and that is what he did. AJ suited is a rather strong hand.
Once 2 spades hit he had a lot of outs, I would of considered myself in trouble. At this point you were
only a 55% favorite in the hand,(if you have queen of spades, 54% if you don't). You really can't play it
differently since your shortstacked. That was the hand to risk all your money you just got outdrawn.
It happens.

I would disagree and say that AJs is NOT a good hand to be ( in effect ) calling with in NL as there was no way you are folding any 2 cards here i presume.

I think the mistake you may have made is to bet only 35000 if you have half your chips in the pot the rest are surely going to follow in ths situaiton you may as well be betting tham all in as opposed to calling them ! I net if you had raised all in he would have folded and if he didnt you are more than a 2:1 favourite to beat his AJ.

Also as i side not i am getting less and less excited by being all in with QQ in No Limit, yes it is a good hand yes it is probably better than most aroung me but, unless you are playing with weak players it is probably only going to get called all in by AK ( 50-50 ) KK or AA both of which dominate it.

Just some thoughts

You got the situation you wanted (a chance to double up against a weaker hand), you just didn't get the right outcome. You had to take a chance with only 2 1/2 rounds of chips left and it's doubtfull you would have gotten a better starting hand than QQ.

I would have gone all-in pre-flop rather than betting 35000, but there's nothing wrong with the way you played it.

I would have made a raise of "All in" to let the table know I have AA.

Simply put...If you are committed to going in "no matter what" but would rather not...then put your chips in first. - Nathaniel Brous
