I'll preface this by saying that I am one of those small bankroll guys who generally has between $150-$300 in my account at any one time. I'm still a working schmoe.

Played in a $10+$1 NLHE tournament on Friday. 203 entrants, and I end up winning the thing taking home just over $600. Feeling very huge, I immediately sit down at a $10+$1 SnG and win that sucker. OK, so now I'm feelin' it!

Tonight I played a $.50-$1 blinds NL table, and doubled my $100 buy in within 45 minutes.

Two things I've picked up at UPF have changed my game. Ignore any A-x unsuited below A-10 unless I'm in the blinds and can play for cheap. I've been outkicked so many times, my butt hurts. The other has been harder. Laying down Big Slick when I miss the flop, and the betting heats up before the turn.

Over $1,000 in the bankroll now, and a big smile on my face.

It's good to hear that your game is evolving. Congrats on your first place finish, try to remember how it feels whenever you are on a run of cold cards! Keep up the good work!

Actually, I'm a Cal alum, so it's the Golden Bears, but the same comment applies. 1-3 and going nowhere fast. Just like Da Bears.

Go Big Blue!

Couple of questions from a novice Cal alum ('98).

Terms:
UB = ?
SnG = ?

I am one of those newbies that watched the wsop on espn and got hooked (all home games so far, looking forward to a tournament, but not many around at the low dolar level). Closest thing to it is a $50 + $15 NLHE tourney at Foxwoods.

Anyway, pleasant surprise to see a golden bear on the UPF.

Congrats on a great weekend. One quick comment:

Axs isn't a bad starting hand, you just have to be really carefull with it after the flop. If you don't hit it hard, fold - otherwise as you mentioned, you'll continually lose money to people with a higer kicker. Unless you flop a four-flush, two pair, trips (with the x, not the ace), or the x is the top top - you should almost always get away from the hand. It's hard to fold a pair of aces, but it's the smart play in the long run.

WTG winning the tourneys, knowing when to lay down AK is one of the most important skills you can learn. If I was the preflop aggressor, sometimes I'll still bet it, but I'm acutely aware that it's just a steal attempt and that I don't really have anything. A-high doesn't take down many pots unless you are very short-handed.

Pot Limit Omaha went crazy on UB on the weekend too. There was a .25-.50 blind game where at one point the average pot was over $100.

There must have been an influx of new players ( maybe due to the deposit promotion ? ) as i have finished 3rd, 3rd ,1st and 2 off the bubble ( ok so that one wasnt so great ! ) in my last 4 multi tables at UB.
Guess where i am playing tonight ? I have now earned more form UB in the past 2 months than i have at my job !

Those PLO games are insane. Gotta luv em. I saw this player called "party girl" turn a $200 buy-in into $1200 in about an hour. I should have called myself "noisegirl" because she certainly did get some weird calls. LOL I thought I was doing good turning $100 into $350 until she came along and showed me up.

I bet Wren gets the same thing, people calling her when they shouldn't, or does she?
