| I was wondering if anyone had any advice they wanted to share about online poker playing. Here is some of the routines things I do. I play 25 buy-in no limit. 1. I never join a table with a player who has over 100 dollars. You can only bring in 25 dollars. The 100 dollar player can play the bully. If you do join this type of table... tighten up your play. Expect large bets from the 100 dollar player. 2. Do not allow a maniac who plays too many hands to get to you. You will often find a maniac showing off how he bluffed the table and how he is so much better than everyone at the table. Sit and wait for a premium hand. Don't be drawn into a raising war. The maniacs can often pull off a miracle card that lets them win. Be patienct and take the maniac out with a great hand. 3. Consider protecting your winnings. If you have been at a table and doing well, you could have doubled your money. Now, if several people have doubled their money... all of your winnings are at risk. Consider leaving the table and coming back with the 25 dollar buy in. Making sure you have a winning session is important. Nothing is more depressing than builing up some winnings and then losing it all in one hand. Remember, you can only lose what you have at the table in front of you. This advice may not be always the correct. But, they are topics I have not heard brought up. Please let me know what your thoughts about these suggestions for online no limit play. Dbldaggers | ||

| Well, they are observable points (this question should probably be in the Strategy and psychology section) but strike me as inflexible. First of all, if you play tight and well, you *want* a loose game, and loose NL games are characterized by pot swings and stack swings, which you correctly point out, therefore loose games generally have some big stacks. A big stack is not necessarily a threat to you. It could be this "rock" that plays one big hand an hour and has been playing for so long moss is growing on him. So I think the stack evaluation needs revisiting and thought by you. Not letting the "maniac who plays too many hands" influence your play is a good piece of advice Dbldaggers, and keep in mind that the maniac that plays often automatically has lower playing requirements because he plays so many hands. You may not need "a premium hand" to win against him. Here is a link to an EXCELLENT article by Paul Samuels on this idea (He writes a super Math & Poker article for www.pokerpages.com that I strongly recommend generally) www.pokerpages.com/articles/archives/samuel15.htm While it is true that maniacs "can often pull off a miracle card", the fact that they have looser starting hand requirements is a tough strike to overcome and I like your tight strategy. Protect your winnings. What a good idea, since most players get looser when their stack increases. I do and I fight this loosening up constantly. Although from the savings point of view, leaving the table and returning is a valid idea, ... I think you are better off recognizing the problem and keeping your stack there to work on your discipline with a bigger stack. The idea is to improve your poker skills too, and this is a big leak in most players games. You are 100% right: " ..., you can only lose what you have at the table in front of you". The first step is to make your buy-in in front of you grow, .... then you can start to protect it. flintsword | ||
