Strategy for bad luck, seti, 14. Sep 2003 10:24 | ||

| I go through strange cycles, if you will, in my poker games. Some days I get amazing luck with my cards, and I cannot do anything except win. But quite often, I endure literal hours without getting more than 1 hand. Such was the case in a tournament I played yesterday, I started off winning a hand very early on, and had a good amount of early chips. an hour went by, and (they were playing with ante's) I only had a starting hand to play a couple times, but I finally managed to win 1 more hand, and again had a positive stack. Then it hit. I never won another hand in the tourney. I lasted 3 more hours ante'ing away, looking for just 1 hand so I could ante for another hour or two and keep waiting. It never came. I would get a decent starting hand once or twice, (QJs, 66), but would not hit the flop. I won two hands the whol tourney and played 5.5 hours. Thats an average of 1 winning hand every 2 hours and 45 minutes! I'm not lying or exagerating. My table was tough to bluff, also. They would see the hand through the river card almost every time. My question is, how do you guys and gals adjust to against-all-odds bad streaks in the course of a tournament? Should I have stopped caring about my J2offsuits and try some reraising and aggressive play? Even the couple times where I would have what is usually considered a decent starting hand (best was KQoffsuit) someone else would come out betting the whole way. Thank you for your thoughts. | ||

| Nobody finishes in the money every tournament they play. You did the best you could by giving yourself the most opportunities to receive a decent hand. If you still don't either find a hand, or a semi-steal situation after doing this, you are simply not going to reach the final table this time. | ||
