| Since there's a mood of renewal and starting new things around here, I thought I'd introduce a new idea and see what y'all think of it. I would like to introduce the "Jackass Quotient" (JQ) into the lexicon and terminology of poker. This would be a semi-scientific measure of the jackass-ness at any given table you're playing at. I'm not talking about the people who can't play, we were all there once. I'm talking about the ones who can't play but think they can, who berate better players for making plays they didn't understand, who spend more time on the racing form than their cards, who ask for a setup or deck change whenever they take what they consider to be a bad beat (which of course never is), or someone who is just, well, a jackass. Obviously, the higher the JQ of your table, the better off you are. Points could be assigned for any of the stupid qualities said jackass portrays, and bonus points could be added if they happen to be sitting ahead of you (until they change seats 4 times, another jackass quality). The more jackasses at your table the more points the table can get, and the better it is for the non-jackass player (i.e., you). I suppose it would be sufficient to just say in a post "I was sitting in a 3-6 HE game tonight at Commerce and seats 1 and 2 alone sent the table's JQ through the roof" rather than finding a way to numerically quantify it, although the sign of a serious scientific index such as this one would at some point necessitate such a system. Just my Big Idea of the night, take it for what it's worth. Eli PS: if I knew the name of the guy sitting in seat 1 of my table at Commerce tonight, we would have someone to name the JQ after. But I was trying to avoid conversation with him. | ||

| ROFLMAO! That's good; I love it! :) -Moz "It's not so much that I have confidence in scientists being right; it's that I have so much confidence in non-scientists being wrong." | ||

| LOL. I was playing an online NLHE SnG the other night and one player raised pre-flop. Another player went all-in, and the earlier raiser called him. The first raiser had Q,10o, and the person who went all-in had A,Ko. Needless to say the Q,10o drew out and won. He then went on to "educate" the table about how you should never re-raise with A,K and going all-in with A,K was just stupid. His comments were close enough to correct to be quoted directly from a book, but he actually didn't see that calling all-in with Q,10 was actually the underdog. He thought he had trapped the unfortunate player with his bad A,K holding. (This was early in the tournament, so personally I don't think either player was playing well, but that's not the point!) Talk about over-educated under-absorbed. It's funny how the "poker coaches" at on-line tables can usually quote a few correct things, but almost never understand when or how to use that information... | ||

| I ran into an example of a player with a high JQ on Saturday. Here is the hand: I hold A4c on the puck. 5 callers to me, I call, SB completes, BB (Our Hero) raises, everyone calls and we see the flop 7 handed. Flop comes Q35 rainbow giving me the gutter. SB checks, Our Hero bets, everyone calls to me. This is a no brainer as the players at my table generally werent playing trash like 64 and I am getting such a big overlay (20-1). I call and SB calls. Turn is a Ten completeing the rainbow. SB checks again, Out Hero bets out, 2 callers to me, and I am now getting 14-1 gor my gutter. Again, another easy call. SB folds so now tere are 4 of us. The river...the beatuiful 2 of clubs. Wheeeeeeeeee.....Our Hero bets, the two limpers fold, and I raise. He calls quickly and turns over pocket Kings. I turn over my str8 and he says..."you F'ing SOB! Playing garbage like that and chasing the whole way! Un F'ing believeable! You are such an A**hole". Meanwhile I am quietly stacking the chips thinking this guy has NO concept that I had odds the whole way to call, especially since I was second to last to act with little fear of a raise from the SB. Anyway, I said to him "Yeah, well I guess you owe me one, huh?" He says "I never play F'ing crap like that so I won't pay you back!" Long story short, he leaves soon after and the rest of the table (none of whom know me except my buddy next to me) nicknames me "the chaser" which is my image the rest of the day...as Cartman would say "Sweeeeet". I ended the day up $580 in a 5-10 game for 9 hours work. Not a bad little sacore for a "chaser". :) Steve | ||

| I have the name for the "JQ" it should now and forever be known as the "Pumkin Eater." There are two guys who play in my local room who both play trash hands no matter the cost and then get the biggest rush out of hitting the miracle river to crack you. On the other hand they both berate anyone who calls them and gets there when they do have a good hand. They ask for setups every 10 to 15 hands, they ask for seat and table changes after every 15 hands or so, and they still lose a ton of dough and cannot figure out why, they always blame the dealers... Got to love these two, total asses to play with but they always pay you off. I have nick named both of them "Pumkin Eaters" based on their stomach's looking like they swallowed a pumkin....you know the type, they drank way to much beer when they were younger and never worked out and now they have basketball stomach. I think their play is exaclty what your describing. | ||

| Damn, they've got all the qualities. Do they also yell "send it!" when they win a pot? Eli on 15. | You're ever so close. They bellow "ship it here" every time they win a pot. I love to let them say "ship it here" and then show down a winner to take "their" pots. | ||
