Playing the small blind, Blade, 13. Sep 2003 18:32 | ||

| Recently I have been keeping track of my total wins and losses seperately much like revenues and expenses. This has lead me to discover that even on my most of my losing sessions if I only played my winning hands I would have been up some or even. On sessions where I broke even or won a little I would have been way up. This discovery has made me extremely cognizent of saving as many losing calls as possible. One such leak I believe has been the small blind. How do you play the small blind? I believe I have most likely been to loose here. Should you lower you starting hands requirements by the proportion of the small blind to the full bet. For example in a 3-6 with a small blind of $1, would it be correct to lower hand selection by 1/3? | ||

| Blade playing the small blind can be difficult and you raise a good topic for discussion. I believe that you should put a great deal of emphasis on how you play from the small blind based on the betting structure of the limit you are playing at. The reason I prioritize this item is because there will be a great deal of times when you are faced with a raise in the small blind and the pot will NOT BE LARGE ENOUGH to justify you playing your hand. In a $3-$6 game with a $1 small blind you should be VERY SELECTIVE about what hands you enter the pot with when faced with a raise since you have so little money currently invested and will be playing the entire hand from the worst position. There are of course exceptions to this generalization but if you play very selectively from the small blind I am sure your results will improve. Good luck!!! GRANT PITTMAN | ||

| Hi Blade One mistake I see MANY players make is playing the two-chip three-chip blind structure WAY too tight....In unraised pots the little blind is usually getting a price to play ANY hand....Part of that equation means that the player must be able to get away from hands post-flop that are likely to be in trouble! Life is Good :-) Roy Cooke on 13. Sep 2003 18:32 Blade wrote: > Recently I have been keeping track of my total wins and losses seperately much > like revenues and expenses. If the flop marginally hits a mediocre starting hand it turns into a BIG loser for most players. I think this is also a big problem with suited connectors and AXs. If the flop doesn't hit us STRONG we usually need to get away from the hand and not chase with these hands when the pot isn't laying us the correct odds to do so. Will | ||
