Raise with 6 4?, iceman5, 13. Sep 2003 16:31

So Im playing hold em with this guy who I keep seeing at my table lately (I'll call him moron because I dont like him). He raises pre flop. I fold with nothing. He bets all the way with a junk board. Something like 9 6 4 J 2. He wins with 2 pair 6's and 4's. He had raised preflop with 6 4 and flopped 2 pair. 3 hands later I watched him do the same thing with 8 5 and flopped 2 pair again. I made a comment on the chat board and he quickly left. Now Im suspicious because I keep hearing conspiracy theories about people hacking in to the poker site and seeing the flop ahead of time (which I dont believe).
Today, Moron comes on to my table again. I start to watch him and now I think he decides to raise in advance of seeing his cards and then bets the flop no matter what it is. So I wait until I get a hand, call Moron's pre flop raise and when he bets the flop I raise him if the flop hit me and fold if it didnt. He folded 4 times in a row to my raise. Apparently the other players havent figured out what hes doing because they keep folding to his flop bet. Is this the best strategy against the Moron? And I assume that I would want him on my immediate right so when he bets and I raise, the other players wont want to call the bet and raise without a really good hand, correct?

Iceman5 may I suggest being careful about openly criticizing the play of your weaker opponents. These "morons" may be the only players you can beat in the game so keeping them around will be better for you in the long run. Your plan to isolate this type of player is a good one especially if your other opponents are not catching on to what you are doing. It is also ok in some cases to allow this type of player to continue betting when you know you are ahead in the hand. He may bluff more money to you before he realizes you have a real hand. Good luck!!! GRANT PITTMAN
